Do you give your gearstick a few wobbles to make sure you are in neutral

I grab it gently with my left hand wrapping my fingers round the shafts head, then with a slight wiggle of the wrist and I give it a tug side to side to make sure it's in the correct position for me to start my ride.  |

I only grab the shaft to slip into D or R, no wiggling required, I do have to press some buttons before I can gently build up and up, going a gentle speed.

The reason I leave mine in gear is because I don’t trust my handbrake after it failed and my car rolled down our drive into our neighbours garage door. I thought my neighbours had got a new car that looked like mine!!
Talk about awkward. I had a 3 mm gap between their wall and the drivers door. I had to scramble over the passengers side to get in the car (which I managed quite nimbly all things considered (like age and size).
I left them an explanatory note regarding the small bump on their garage door, which was just as well as they had the whole thing on their doorbell cam. They were pretty cool about it!
