Doughnut and all our combined sons and his best man all wore converse to our wedding!
Our wedding was a geeky type of wedding though so didn't look like a normal wedding party, we had a friend in her comic book suit, one came in shorts and mad shirt, we didn't care what people looked like as long as they were comfy and happy.

I host weddings regularly where I work, about half have some complete tool who clearly thinks they are cool and edgy by wearing trainers with their suit.
They do not look cool and edgy. They look stupid.
That said, there was one wedding where it was part of the theme, all wore chucks, even the bride, though hers were white. It worked well. |

How about a compromise...
If he hasn't already got a pair, get him to buy a pair of black (or navy) plimsolls with matching soles...
A quick search on Google, you can get a pair on Amazon for £7.99. I've got a pair of women's from Primark for same sort of prices. With lace or slip-ons. |
