Valentine's Day - We don't, do you?

Lola and I don't bother with it, neither do we send cards at christmas to each other (we have two cards, about ten years old in the decs box that we just put out on the shelf).

Are we alone in not getting caught up in the bullshit?

Did the first 2 years of our relationship. Havent bothered since. Same with birthdays and xmas.

Not to say we havent bought gifts for each other but I do not feel pressured (never have) to buy gifts just because its some tradition.

Spontaneity is best.

We do cards, but we don't go in for the whole meal on valentines day thing as I can't understand why anyone would pay 3x over the odds for the same meal that will be cheaper tomorrow, surrounded by 30 other couples who do want to be there .

This year, we've got an M&S dine in meal so I don't have to cook

I definitely see valentines day more for singles than married people. Wheres the surprise when you open a card from your hubby? LOL

We , as others here, used to buy each other cards and stuff but don't bother anymore .

As ,also said before , spontaneity is best .

But , as nothing is ever normal in our lives, I suffered from CO poisoning from my van today, ended my round retching and falling over , van now off to the garage again.

Cyndi drove home and I was recuperating whilst she went off to fat club, she has come back with a couple of bottles of wine " happy valentines day " .

A nice slurp and I remember we have not eaten since 05:00 , have gone all wobbly again .

Doh !!

Nope, as it is a meaningless commercial invention. Having said that I do understand people like it and want to make it special... each to their own. Would not dream of criticising anybody for doing or not doing

Always cards and gifts, we don't buy into the commercialism of Valentines however birthdays are important!

Our surprise is the personal messages we write to each other inside.

In a busy lifestyle it is nice to take time out to be extra special and indulge in love.

We do!

Alternate years, so it was my turn this year to treat Mr BB, he had brekkie in bed followed by some relaxation (!) then out to lunch, walk on the beach in the afternoon followed by a little picnic with homemade lemon cake.

Yes we do this sort of thing throughout the year, but around valentines day weekend 3 years ago we were looking for our first house together and viewed the one we live in now

14th Feb is an anniversary for us but not a romantic or cheerful one.

My friends and I had our now traditional anti valentine's day booze up last night. 6 confirmed singletons all whooping it up and flirting with everyone in sight. All just a bit of fun but it helps relieve the tedium of of a made up celebration

I feel if you can't make a bit of effort to separate special days of the year from any other if only to show your partner he or she is loved then that says a lot about you as a person. Sure, some will argue that they show it every day, but then every day then ends being the same as the one before. It's nice to go that extra mile for a special person on a special day and let them know just how appreciated they are.

Care to expand on exactly what it says about a person? We do things for each other when we choose to, that's all.

deffo no cards prezzies or meals for me and the wife . if we want to go out for a meal we will go the day before or the day after when the price has dropped considerably .. just a money making racket in our eyes. we drove past a pub the other day advertising valentines 3 course meal for 45 quid i can go to my regular indians and have a 3 course meal for no more than 25 quid any other night ..
