Whatching breakfast TV, showing how AI is being used to generate fake educational videos giving disinformation to kids and them believing it as they don't know any different. Are we being to brainwashed on a daily basis by those who are exploiting us for gain.

I'm in geek mode but it was scary what they can do these days.

I'm not sure there's any such thing as truth any more. People tell and accept their own versions of it!

The deep fake things are scary but in a way they may lead to people being more wary of what they think they're seeing.

Once you realise that we are being lied to on a daily basis then you see everything in a different perspective. They want us to listen and do as they say!

I don’t think AI is doing anything different regarding disinformation no , maybe there’s more of it, and it’s a bit harder for some people to spot but the same principles apply of using multiple good sources.

Finding information is in the longer a challenge but validating its authenticity clearly is for some.

There are projects going on in various places to use Blockchain ledgers to score authenticity to all kinds of non-currency transactions and information.

In the not too distant future, you should be able to use Blockchain based systems to rank results by authenticity in the same way you Google rank by relevance and source authority.

I think you're right - AI is going to be the cause of its own downfall because people will not believe that any videos or blogs are genuine any more!

Ever since social media took off disinformation/fake news mushroomed as a problem. AI isn't an unitary thing. It's an umbrella term the media likes to use.

But yeah ai creating images like trump in handcuffs and deepfake videos it's going to get worse.

One of Putin's advisors coined the term firehouse of lies. Steve Bannon in America calls it flooding the zone with bullshit. The strategy isn't to make you believe a single thing but disbelieve everything you see and hear.

With the big social media platforms reluctant to clamp down on disinformation, it's ripe for ai generated content to spread.

Ahhhh, we are being groomed for others to take ill gotten gains every day in some shape or form, my cynical head is well and firmly on, but occasionally hope takes over and its not until you get scammed, that the I feel so stoopid head takes over

It's easy enough to cross-check any suspicious news, and there's whole websites that have been debunking false information and fake videos for years. So if you're worried, just double check, easy

The easy fix for the Own Research Brigade is to just not engage. Eventually they'll implode under the gravity of their own stupidity... not that a lot of them believe in gravity

Does assume you can trust the people doing the 'fact checking' on those sites though.
