Is history a warning to the future?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By *hagTonight OP   Man  over a year ago

From the land of haribos.

History is important, it can tell us many things, like the story of who we are, where we come from and it can potentially reveal where we are headed.

The other thing it might also tell us, is that it might be able to predict future events that we have already had.

What is your view about that, that can history be used to predict the future, how would we know that we would enter something we have gone through, is it by similarities?

Nostradamus has made some interesting predictions in the past, might be worth a read of his book.

It seems we are still doomed to making the same mistakes, mainly due to greed.

How could history reveal where we are "headed"? How does it predict future events?

People are the same whether born 100yrs ago or 100 yrs in the future. Greed, power, lost, religious fundamentalism have a lot to answer for.

The Town by The Cross

History ,

1. is written by the victors and accounts are biased.

2. is at best partial - just tiny fragments of what has gone before.

3. there are lessons to be learned if we wish to avoid repetition of events if it is possible to avoid them. (IF)

We cannot change the course of the future...... the future will be so markedly different to the past as will culture and mindsets and ethics.

Shit will happen.

Pass me the shaduf someone i'm a bit thirsty. A tap ? A what ? running water ? Fuck me .... ive seen the future and it's not garlic bread.

Your servant here, he has been told

To say it clear, to say it cold:

It's over, it ain't going

Any further

And now the wheels of heaven stop

You feel the devil's riding crop

Get ready for the future:

It is murder

And on that bright note...

You humans crack me up. Your lifespans are so short I wouldn't worry about the future just concentrate on living for today.

We have been observing your species for a very long time and think in a couple of thousand years give or take a century you'll be close to getting it right.

It's a bias, nothing more. Throw enough shit at a wall and some of it will stick. No one ever looks at the other 740 episodes where nothing has ever came true and goes "well they got that wrong".

It's about as accurate as some of the interpretations of Nostradamus so called predictions. I'd be generous to call it a stretch.

All I can think of is ancient civilisations being able to predict where the sun would be the following year. Any other suggestions ?

"I think Da Vinci predicted the helicopter"

He dissent predi t it as such he made prototypes or at least what you would call blueprints that were feasible. Their are a few replicas of The Da Vinci flying machines that while the principles are sound would be to hea y to fly.

"Did we get an answer on how history can predict the future?"

Maybe repeated patterns of human behaviour?

Certain events and how individuals and nations respond to those with varying degrees of success.

The old story of doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

100% if you study history at a high level that’s a big takeaway as you can see history repeats it self

History? That's so last century

I think the only war to end all wars will end us all ultimately. War is never simple and it never comes alone.

The problem is we still think wars can be just, when the only wars that make sense are the ones that are just unavoidable.
