Do you need to be cool

To have cool hair?
So on my social media mums group there's a stunning lady with hair half ginger half brown, I love it, I want it but I'm not cool.... so I was thinking do you need that certain look to have certain hair? Such as goth/emo type looks with black/pink/green/blue hair?
Or can a plain Jane run of the mill me pull off the cool half and half hair?

"Do it "
I had the discussion with the Mr he said do it then changed his mind and said she has that emo look though (she did look absolutely amazing) then I found myself agreeing and chickened out.

You just need confidence. Your life is too short to worry that some people might not think you look cool enough. I say go for it if you love it. It's easy enough to change if you don't like it. |

"Cool is just confidence. I’ve never met anyone who in class as cool that gives a shit what anyone else thinks. "
Actually yeah your probably right, so maybe the confidence lacking plain Jane should just stick to boring hair and be safe

Just because you don't you're cool, doesn't mean the people around you don't think you are. Plus I think once you make one bold decision, you start making more as you become more confident with how you want to look. |

You don't have to dress exactly to a scene's aesthetic to do your hair that way. If I did that I'd have to be dyed black with probably something bright cutting into it.
I want white blonde hair and a tiara over my obvious goth dress sense, and as long as I fucking own it in my own mind, that's what counts to me |

The real issue here though I feel is not that the hairstyle is "too cool for you" OP but that it is unusual for everyone. Can you sustain the looks & mixed comments (highly dependent on where you live tbh), then yeah you're good to go. That's the price to pay for being cool in that alt way!
Also since your hair is long, not sure if you dye your hair at all but it is a commitment, bleaching even more so, it'll take a while to grow the whole length out so it'll influence your style choices for a while (not the split head thing so much as you can always treat the other side to match if you absolutely hate it, but the texture changes and altered colours). |

I have epic hair. It just grows like that. It would look shite if I didn't mind it well and get a very very good stylist to take care of it for me.
I feel so cool when I'm having a good hair day. It does so much for my confidence.
Looking cool is feeling great and feeling genuine.
Do it! |

The geezer paradox
Old guys aren't cool, but no longer care about looking cool, or impressing others, so become cool. |

Short version: To put it simply... no.
Longer version: The word 'cool' is subjective. We define things as cool when they appeal to us. Therefore, to be cool is just a personal subjective preference of what appeals to one or many people (so it's not an overall impersonal truth). You are cool if you feel you are what that word expresses. I got my hair dreaded recently, and there is a train of thought somewhere out there that white people shouldn't get dreads because of cultural appropriation. Now I could either think i'm being rude in some way for wanting and getting them, or enjoy the hair style (I've acted on the latter ). |

"No, but your choice of clothes can make you look cooler."
This one time I put on a bright pink miniskirt and a denim shirt, I must have looked so cool because everyone was looking and I didn't even touch my hair |

I'm not sure cool is how I would describe that look. |

I've seen women in frumpy clothes with bright blue hair.

Anyone can pull off any hairstyle or outfit they choose to have or wear, just remember all the funky hairstyles and colours take more upkeep than standard colours as an example. So you need the extra time to maintain the look so to speak.
I say go for it, I've had every colour hair imaginable and tempted to ditch the blonde again now. |
