Film is way way better than the book. Book is brilliant but the film, which follows it to the letter puts it into pictures

Not many of Stephen Kings books re portrayed very well actually.

But Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption do show it can be done.

And in style

(even tho Shaeshank flopped and went straight to video the first time round hehe)

In your opinion

I read the book several years before the film came out, and it just wasn't as good. For me, I can visualise what's being described, I don't need a director to do that for me

"Shawshank, another absolute classic "

That's one of only a handful of films that I can, and have, watch many times over and never get bored with. Such an absorbing story.

I also read the book several years before the movie came out but as the movie not only depicts the book almost word for word but has has a cast that are an absolutely perfect fit then for me the movie does nothing more than bring the book to life.

It's as rare as rocking horse shit that a movie is ever capable of doing that and for me glorious colour, startling acting and superb directing beats black and white of words hands down every time

I saw this film on the shelf at Asda many years ago when it had just been released, I bought it because Tom Hanks was in it and I like him as an actor, I took the film home and really didn't expect much I hadn't heard of it and actually thought it was one of his older movies unheard of because it wasn't that good.

How wrong I was, I watched it without reading the back of the DVD (I like to do this with films I know nothing about because I like the story to unfold without any pre-concieved ideas of what to expect)

Amazing film and definetely in my Top 5 of all time.

Did the same thing with The Shawshank Redemption and thought the same thing, an amazing film during which you guess everything that is going to happen next - and get it wrong each time.

Was it not true that the Chap who plays Coffee (as in the drink) was not a big actor - they just sought his out due to his size!?!?!?!?!

And boy was he a big fella!!!

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

It's a bit odd that Channel 5 have showed it twice in a week though. It was shown on Sunday night, then again on Thursday night, and both were scheduled.

He was also in Armageddon and he's not as big as he appears in The Green Mile. His name is Michael Clarke Duncan and he gives $5 to anyone who recognises him and says his full name.

He said in a CNN chat that "I'm 6'5", 315 pounds". In the Green Mile, they took this muscle-bound cuddly monster and made him even taller (he looked 7ft+) with special boots and platforms that enabled him to tower over 6ft 4 inch David Morse.

I agree, I often avoid the film versions as they fall short of my imagination. Silence of the Lambs is another one: couldn't put the book down, hardly recognised the same story in the film version.
