I put this in the Swingers Chat forum first, thought maybe it would be better placed here……
I want to put a theory out there for other peoples opinions.
I started swinging over 30 years ago, when the main method of making new contacts were through private ads in swinging magazines or social directories. This meant making contact through P.O. Boxes, letters or landline phone calls. My experience then was that after taking the effort to set up a meet, most people went through with it.
Now however, setting up a meet is so easy, using sites like Fab and the like, email, kik, WhatsApp etc. but I feel that this ease of contact is one of the reasons why I have found it seems to be less than 50% of organised meets actually happen.
So, what have you guys found? Especially those of you that remember those days of social mags. Genuinely interested to hear your thoughts. |

I’ve been a swinger for over 16 years. I remember the old days of swinging where it was far more ‘underground’. There was a local alternative newspaper that listed club events. Except clubs were not what clubs are today. You’d have to be interviewed, you’d correspond via post to make your interest known in joining this ‘underground’ community. I remember the first club I ever visited, it was the type where you’d give a password at the entrance and be let in.
There was a directory of sorts where those who were members would be listed along with some details. Clubs were more social environments with far less public sex, and most went to private rooms to play. It seemed ‘breaking in’ was more difficult than nowadays.
There are some things I miss about the old ways, but like most things improvements and changes have made the lifestyle better in many ways too. |

Thanks for sharing that, yes I too remember those clubs which, in my opinion, didn’t help the seedy reputation that swinging used to have |
