The Ex-Met Police officers that pleaded guilty to sending 'grossly offensive' racist messages on WhatsApp are facing a whopping SIX months in prison OR a fine! Excellent work all!

I hear you. I think it’s just a given in today’s younger society to screenshot and share content as some form of digital currency. Let’s hope they pull the net even tighter and flush out a load more, it shouldn’t be too hard with the digital footprints they would’ve left behind them. |

In this case, which is the topic of the thread, if you don’t say anything racist, there’s nothing to worry about. And these admitted what they did. |

It shouldn’t just be confined to race, the problem is much worse. Misogynistic, misandrist, hate, sharing private and confidential info etc etc etc. They should throw the book at anyone who does this. Whatapp, telegram etc is a minefield for leaving a digital footprint. In this case it’s caught them out and rightly so. |

Do you think it's acceptable to have racist (and other discriminatory types) in the police force? Responsible for upholding the law and keeping the population safe? I don't think that's okay. The excuse "it was a private chat" is null and void. Racists are racists, whether they say it in the street or send it in a chat message. |

"Racists are racists, whether they say it in the street or send it in a chat message. "
This.
It doesn’t matter that it was private (they’ve been prosecuted so privacy obviously wasn’t that important!).
What matters is that they are racist and will display that racism when they think they can get away with it.
There’s no place for them in modern policing, albeit that I know they had already left policing.
Sadly, any previous good policing they did will be eclipsed by this. You can’t be a good cop most of the time, you have to strive to be a good cop all the time. You don’t send racist messages as a “momentary lapse” in your usual high standards.

Since they were charged and pleaded guilty to "sending by public communication grossly offensive racist messages" under the Communications Act 2003 - that rule of law.

A quote from a news report on this subject:
"According to BBC Newsnight, the group shared racist images too offensive to broadcast, and messages used the “very strongest racial slurs” including the P-word and the N-word. Some of the posts referred to the government’s policy of sending asylum seekers to Rwanda, while others joked about flooding in Pakistan that left almost 1,700 people dead."

"They are all retired, messages sent privately between individuals are just that, PRIVATE !!
BBC shit stirring yet again
The investigative journalist needs to keep looking over his shoulder
I didn’t read about this on the BBC. DM posted their pictures online. One wasn’t retired and he was fired by the home office. Private messages between racists are private until they’re not. The moral of this story will always be-
Don’t be a racist.

Do you think it's acceptable to have racist (and other discriminatory types) in the police force? Responsible for upholding the law and keeping the population safe? I don't think that's okay. The excuse "it was a private chat" is null and void. Racists are racists, whether they say it in the street or send it in a chat message.
Utter bollox
Which bit is "utter bollox"? Please do explain.
Because you are trying to live in a steralised world, life isnt like that love
They have referred to someone as chicken tikka, and we are in court with a judge
I refer you to my playground comment
Don't call me love. You don't know who you're speaking to in this couple but neither of us wish to be addressed as such.
That's why they've been prosecuted.

"CHEERS LOVE XX"
I refer you back to your own playground comment.
You’ve tried to down play what they did by saying it was all private and should be left alone, it’s the BBC stirring up shit, it was just banter and people need to grow up. But then when you’re confronted by the reality of it and the fact that they pleaded guilty, you resort to childish behaviour.
Come on, get real.

"They all over 60... feels like they just got the ones close to retirement to make an example of... plenty younger rotten apples there
Unfortunately I fear that your view is likely pretty accurate. But on a positive note, prosecution will affect their pension
A positive note?
Why dont we check their police records to see what good work they did before we get gleeful
Their pensions wont be affected"
You know hitler did great things for Germany before he started a world war and did genocide of millions of innocent people? Should we ignore his crimes and big him up for being a good politician and economist? |
