If the Irish can hold their nerve then it’s theirs….they’re number 1 in the World for a reason!!

Wish I could say it’s Wales’ year but nope!!

I started another thread yesterday but this is cool…..

I said if England don’t reach the semifinals with Ireland, South Africa, France and New Zealand all not in their path… the England staff deserve to be shot!!!

Long for an Ireland vs France final…. Fear one will cock it up and it will be an Ireland vs France quarter final!

The sneaky best game of the tournament could well be South Africa vs Scotland…..

This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius.

And maybe the island nations. Possibly even the eastern Europeans.

The best thing would be for England and Australia to go out at the group stages. I'll be cheering that on.

And if Scotland win the whole thing, I'm off to the Bahamas.

Sa look so strong again , France at home are always dangerous and Ireland seem unbeatable at the moment so will be a good one , England on the other hand no chance

I really can't see England doing well. This is the least prepared I have seen us for a World cup since watching from mid 90s. We need a good shake up in the RFU and coaching set up.

Would love to see Ireland win it, the squad, coaching team and Faz senior have put in so much hard work they really deserve the cup. Springboks, France and NZ still look very dangerous on their day.

It all seems very low key, maybe because England have little chance of doing well. I find a lot of top level rugby to be unwatchable now, there is so much interference from the video ref where everyone stands around for ages waiting for a decision. There doesn't seem to be any flow to the games.

Better of watching championship rugby I go watch Donny knights 15 quid for Mr kids free no ques for beer and it's cheap the standard of rugby is good and is getting better because of the lack of teams and small squads in the prem is forcing players to join lower league teams no video refs either

As per the usual 6n thread.. I suppose I am the keeper of the irrelevant comment.. how I hate chippy 9’s… my love of fat blokes in the centre and wings… and my hatred of the french player who shall not be named!!!

Initial thought… that version of the french anthem was cool!!! And I didn’t know the kiwis brought props for the haka now.. that helps with my campaign for “jingly bells” for the England response!!

This Ireland team would beat this New Zealand team in a potential quarterfinal…..

Ireland are chronic underachievers

And I don't think they will be any different this time round

They can't hack the pressure IMO"

Well it's a game of opinions, Clive.

But that's utter bollocks.

If i were the French if you now Knew you could still win the group and let Italy beat you i would let them (just keep it within losing bonus point range)

I’m gonna chuck a few quids fourfold on Italy, Ireland, Australia, and (controversially?) Argentina.

That’s tough because I could absolutely see this Georgia team turn over Australia or giving them a hell of a fright for 65 minutes… same with Argentina and England

It will be a new game looking at how it's referred ad what impact yellow and red cards play. It will set new rules of play for the game going forward / or backwards depending on your opinion.

"French national anthem sounded horrible.

It sounded like they were singing 2 different songs at the wring time."

It's a technical "error" due using a live choir in the stadium. They delay the sound slightly to prevent feedback, but then there is a natural delay (due to distance) in the sound getting from the speakers to the players in the middle of the pitch... so when they add the audio from the cameras they ARE badly out of time with the signal straight from the quire. It wouldn't have sounded like that inside the stadium.

Recent games would suggest that you're right, but it only ever need a few small changes to move a team between "Zero and Hero".

I thought that the opening game was a great match, so much intensity and not one high tackle.

Ireland are not being tested ( apart from the first few mins ) but good chance to get game time - Romania are not that bad but can’t cope with the pace .

NZ and France have two different strategies - France won the break down which was the difference but NZ play a very quick game which will unsettle some sides layer on .

England i am afraid have little chance against the big boys ( Eddie was allowed to leave us in a real mess ) but I think we may just surprise everyone later today, so if we get out of our pool ,hopefully ,and then onto the quarters … we will see . Wishful thinking maybe .

Boks look good

How can England players keep talking like politicians, saying stuff like “we’ve learned lessons” and “conversations have been great and valuable”.

Then step on to the field and make exactly the same mistakes that they claim to have learned from?

That was probably the sternest test in the pool. A foundation to build from.

I’m questioning Owen Farrells probable return to the fold in a couple of weeks.

Does he warrant a walk in back to the starting XV? For me, no.

Well we’ll well - at last England showed some fight ; clearly the ‘ keep up your sleeve strategy ‘ worked well .

The Red card , which would never have been even noticed if it wasn’t for the fact both players needed treatment, was a complete injustice . Rugby is a tough game and head collisions do happen but in real time there is little you can do to avoid head of head in certain circumstances.

But never the less England played well for the majority of the game against the odds, with 14 men .

This will improve their confidence no end; Farrell will come back at 12 probably and Ford at 10 .

Bring it on - we now have a chance in making good progress and the press will have to eat humble pie !!!

I agree too, he can be a tad “erratic” shall we say and we really can’t afford any more cards, keep him on the subs but leave Ford where he is

I'd say South Africa. Currently the in form team and they're a proper tournament team too. They know how to win in big tournaments, even when not at their best. France are second favourites, but can be utterly brilliant and utterly shite the very next game, but home advantage will definitely help them. After that it's Ireland, but never really done anything of note at a world cup, so they'll have do something that's completely alien to them. New Zealand always have a chance, but this is far from the best All Black team. Aussies and England, have a very small chance, but highly unlikely. Wales and Scotland, as good as Scotland have been in recent times, neither have a chance imo.

It wasn't "seen" at all, even with players telling the ref. I suspect there will be a sanction applied later, but the red card that "should" have come would have changed the game.

Trouble is a sanction after the game is no good, in the modern game where everthing has cameras pointing at it it shouldn't be missed, it won't Scotland if he's punished tomorrow.
