What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to work in woolworth the sweet counter! Back when I was little they stood in the middle and weighed out the sweets! They were surrounded by them! I often wondered how they got in to the middle x |

A ballerina or a teacher
I had to stop dancing when I was 15 as needed numerous surgeries on my feet plus my boobs got rather big
I did go into work in education most of my adult life though

I have a vague recollection of finding the life of a marine biologist appealing.
Jaques Cousteau seemed to have his shit together.
Probably something to do with animals...maybe a shepherd...appeals now. |

Quite a few things.
A nurse, but I hate hospitals.
A red coat or holiday rep.
Running my own small hotel. I might revisit this one day.
I am certain no one ever thinks about wanting my job as a child |

"I didn't want to grow up... I didn't want to be older than 16
You can opt out of growing up, many of us do.
Sadly you can’t out of getting older "
I am more than ok with it all now I usually look like my granddaughter dressed me.... She didn't |

All I ever wanted to do was to become a professional dancer - thankfully I was lucky enough to fulfil my dream and it’s taken me to various places from dancing in west end shows to teaching kids at a summer camp in America to podium club dancing in Ibiza
There is nothing that comes close to the feeling I get when I see someone I have taught go on to achieve there dreams too - I just love to dance x |

A creative designer sort which I have achieved. However, I did one of those career guidance questionnaires at 15 and it came back telling me I wanted to be a zoologist
Only realised in later life that is was kind of right as I’d give my left testicle to be a marine biologist now.

Various things ballerina, vet, wildlife service ranger. As I grew up I realised one I wasn't emotionally suited to, one I wasn't good enough at. The final one would have required many years on the breadline doing the job a volunteer before more only just over the breadline doing a payed role. |

I wanted to be an astronomer.
Now that I'm an adult with an engineering degree, who works as a software engineer, I'm vaguely jealous of my old schoolfriend, who is a professor of astrophysics at a leading university in the US. |

A vet. Had an offer at Cambridge but unfortunately didn't achieve the grades. Having a baby just before the start of A leveks, who was in hospital both winters of my studies, was hard work. I did a degree in microbiology instead |

I wanted to be a musician or a palaeontologist... my parents told me I couldn't. To be fair I followed my music dream till I was 17 and had my son.... then it kinda got given up. For me knowing i got accepted to the London philharmonic orchestra but had to refuse it due to my son... was both my highest moment and my lowest. I still love paleontology and study stuff off my own back for personal interest x |

When I was very young I wanted to be a racing driver.
In my teens it was a gynaecologist. I never made that happen but still pursue that line of interest in an enthusiastic amateur way as an adult. |

Earliest memories age 4 being given a world atlas and Polaroid camera for Xmas. All I wanted from that point was to be a cartographer, travel, take photographs and create maps.
Kind of did it indirectly in my spare time though a dozen or so different jobs around the world. |

I wanted to be a builder or work in the local builders merchants when I was little.
I did fulfill that dream of being a builder growing up.
Have a different job now though. |

"As a child, what was the dream career you wanted to do when you grew up?
Also is there anyone out there that actually followed that dream through? "
Yes I definitely ended up exactly where I wanted to be.
Carpentry and joinery, spent my days playing with all the power tools. Every day is a challenging. Just love what I'm doing. Thinking it's properly time to start making my own coffin. Because they are going to have to carry me out of here. Ha ha |

No idea. I used to say a teacher because a lot of my relatives were but I was directionless for most of my career decision making years.
If I knew then what I know now I would have become very experienced at waitressing and bar work or qualified as a hairdresser and beautician and Mr N and I would have worked our way around the world |
