Conversations you have with another couple whilst semi naked in a club:
Do you follow the official rules of Monopoly, e.g. if you don't buy a property you land on it gets auctioned off, or do you play 'house' rules like putting fines in the middle and landing on Chance gets you the money?

"We put the fines on free parking and if you land on that you get the money
Boooo

We do this too, the only money that goes into the bank is from buying properties, otherwise it goes in free parking
We also got the extended game, I expected it to have loads of new properties but it’s not, it’s just the same board 3 times over and buying one gives you all 3 which feels just odd |

Monopoly (though secretly seen as quite fun) is hated by 'modern gamers' (the post mid-90's brigade, circa Catan and all that) for a number of reasons... one without doubt being childhood trauma!
When parents put collective money into Parking or whatever (to be more palatable for kids usually), it 'breaks' an already long-widended game and no one can win it!
Why do kids throw the board? Because it goes on foreeeeever and they already realised early on they can't win.
Monopoly is all about the trade. The creaky 2-dice (1 is probably better) 'roll and move mechanic' means that you need to buy everything you land on if you have any business acumen at all! Even the brown ones. (I realised this as a kid, and also to hide a pink note under my side of the board for later, as everyone looks at and plays by your money!). If only I was as good at making money today. I used to be a winner once ladies.
