Off the back of one our favourite news reporters latest thread I am curious as to who is responsible when it all goes boom ? The original OP who asked the question (maybe with the hint of mischief in their eyes) or all those who pile in afterwards to give it oxygen when they react with shock and horror?

Don’t mention “WHO”. That’s for the virus forums.

Roger Daltrey approves this.

.

Both.

I think that the first few who reply can definitely shape how a thread goes - whether it's deliberately misreading a thread, being so utterly shocked by what's been typed and stirring up the masses or joining in with it.

I think the Op when it's a more contentious issue can enjoy just putting it out there and leaving it to burn merrily. Not returning but watching how it plays out.

Sometimes I think it's best to not add more fuel to the fire. Step away. As much as I do agree with some things being challenged, with all that being typed.

On the positive side - at least no one can see your shame in that case.

It wasn’t my fault, they made me do it?

I do think there is an art form to setting a thread on fire. It is amazing to watch it done well.

I think its all down to the subject matter and the first few posters as to how it goes

I often make a curious to know thread to read back later on, I don't think the OP has to over participate tbh, if it doesn't flow well, then so be it, I'm more interested in the quality of the posts, rather than the quantity of posts

Usually those sex maniacs that can't keep their flirting out the public eye.

Or the ones who aren't getting the sex, so rain their frustration down on us all.

Or the ones that want the sex, so need advice on getting the sex.

It's sex's fault.

Trolls get a lot of negative press but they have to get credit for their unerring aim.

They know their target and hit the bull almost every time.

They aren't always wrong in what they say but more often than not lose points for presentation.

So who's to blame?

Sometimes the op for throwing the grenade.

Sometimes another poster who realises the op has forgotten to pull the pin first and they have to help out.

Sometimes the bomb squad who leap in but cut the blue wire instead of the red.

Often the premature ejaculation squad who allow it to go off in their hand.

Regardless, it's not me it's you.

Curious? Oh you sweet innocent man you. How many times have you been answered this?

Your "shock and horror" line is a) a general pop, and b) actually an insult to people who hold back until someone says something racist or whatever, and then of course some people feel they have to morally counter or correct. Nobody knows the views this forum gets - people are entitled not to pass by.

Just recently that is exactly what happened.

And if the OP keeps 'bumping' his endless threads til someone says something awful, or even eventually drops the crappy line himself out of boredom, then how can others be to 'blame' by correcting/countering any abuse they see?

At very least it is "shared" (wow, new concept) - most of the time imo it's the OP's fault for stirring.

This just sounds like typically-political 'blame deferring' (away from the freedom-expressing espousers) in a spoilt world where people just want to say whatever they want whenever they want to while pretending they can't whilst in fact they do.

Stir some pots and content will ALWAYS spill.

I guess that’s in the eye of the beholder.

But from appearances it would seem that the tempted usually get the blame & the tempters get away with it.

Perhaps the tempted ought to reflect on their impulse control
