"Actually I’m after some advice on what power saw to buy if you’re up for it?
Cheaper than a private circumcision.
Maybe you can help, can you do saws?"
I’m more junior hacksaw than power tools. |

"More or less yes
What do you need it for? What’s the job?"
Okay basically it needs to cut lengths of mdf (1800mm x 19mm x 9mm) crossways so the length is shorter. But it also needs to cut lengths of tongue and groove along the long side. A table saw looks good for the latter but not the former, a chop saw looks good for the former but not the latter and a circular saw looks like I’d be cutting wonky |

Circular and just use a guide rail for a straight line |

Can I use anything as a guide rail? As long as it’s straight? |

"Table saw for that job, 90 tooth blade for a top quality cut edge."
Will I be able to cut my long bit in half widthways with that? It looks like it wouldn’t fit |

A field somewhere |
You could, yes, they come with a sliding mitre fence.
But if its just for one job then have someone cut it for you.
Table saws are very dangerous, I've even had joiners scared to use mine (it sounds like a beast) |

Ooh I think I’ll wander into screwfix and ask, their chaps are usually quite useful. |

I'm sure that in screwfix they will be able to recommend someone to cut the mdf for you |

Try a plunge saw that comes with a track I cut 18mm mdf all the time |

I think it’s hard to go wonky with a circular saw, so long as you mark it up straight, just use the cutting guide pointer to stay on the line, hardly ever use the guide rail.

Away with the fairies (Liverpool to you) |
I did a bit of naked cleaning when I lived in London, went down quite well with the gay old men haha . I remember one old guy getting pretty excited when I was on my hands and knees fixing his top loader video recorder. He even took Polaroids for later |

Nah, a couple of saw stools and clamps and you are sorted

Just make sure that whatever surface you are cutting on is flat.
You can make a zero clearance rail with some more mdf then you can use a battery circular saw, probably the cheapest way to get a good straight cut |
