"Think cold parquet floors
Whats your favourite Jesus Banger?
Mine, lord of the dance
…dance dance wherever he may be…"
Ah the dance settee as I thought it was at junior school. |

Fight the good fight with all thy might,
Sit on a stick of dynamite,
Light the fuse and you will be,
The quickest man to the cemetery
The first line is as per the hymn books, the rest is a bit freestyle |

"Autumn Days.
"Jetplanes meeting in the air to be refuelled"
Lyrical perfection
J"
And I am back sat on one of those cute little benches in my primary school hall...
It will tell you about my family's religious leanings when I say I have a soft spot for a good 'Ave Maria'! |

Oil in my lamp
“Sing hosanna, sing hosanna, sing hosanna to the king of kings”
We had a great music teacher in primary school. We’d build that up to a crescendo which was completely over the heads of ten year old us but looking back really was quality
Which is probably why our choir was lucky enough to sing with the London symphony orchestra
Not a Jesus banger but Algy met a bear was a great warmup too
Algy met a bear
The met Algy
The bear grew bulgie
The bulge was Algy |

Ah yes, those magic climbing frames that just appeared from the walls! 80s schools really were quite ingenious!

Mine certainly wasn't what I'd call religious and from speaking to my friends years ago neither were theirs but we still sung hyms! |

They’ve gone all Christian rock with schools now. “My lighthouse” and such
Oo! He’s got the whole world in his hands!
That’s one from my school I was reminded of. They don’t do that now. Now they do “my god is a great big god” |

This is etched in my brain forever! Please tell me I'm not the only one?
My God is so BIG *stands on tiptoes*, so STRONG *makes muscles arms* and so MIGHTY
*waggles finger with attitude* There's nothing that He cannot do |

Yes they did. Especially if the head was old school. Most schools had to have a Christian ethos as this is a Christian country or some such bollocks.
This little light of mine
That's the only one I could just about tolerate |

I believe all state schools are still nominally supposed to perform one act of religious devotion each day. Most claim that saying grace before lunch counts, or similar. Or having an assembly with a tenuous connection to a biblical story. |

"If I had a hammer. Proper banger
Haha quality. And your namesake song too...
Little bird I have heard what a merry song you sing. I think I had to play that on the recorder in assembly."
Glad you like it… I like to sing directly to the baby Jesus |

It's a daily act of collective worship and it doesn't have to be Christian |

I didn't say it did have to be Christian
Daily act of worship is still much more religious than most non faith schools would like to be...... |

I'm actually quite (pleasantly) surprised they *don't* have to be Christian - Established Church and all that jazz... |

I don't know if it had to be Christian previously, but think it's pretty well understood that there are faith schools of all flavours (and non faith schools too). |
