Probably 2 weeks ago when we were on holiday. We have a vast collection of board games that most people will never have heard of.
One of the current favourites is Space Base. Unfortunately my husband seems to beat me every time |

Dominion was the last one I played.
Two of my fave relationship games are Lost Cities and Silver and Gold btw. Both are 'modern' board games, ie post early-90's, tighter in conception, and of course you'll always get the play time (eg 30 mins) on the box! The rules are really easy with these two too (modern games tend to have the trade-off of longer rules sadly), two really good games. pt |

Going modern again, 'Just One' is a fantastic family/party game. Or just an icebreaker. So simple, but really great fun for anyone. pt
I have a soft spot for Monopoly, but why play a game that can last hours even days when the players are evenly matched? Kids get tired of it because they can't properly match. Conversely Scrabble (another game I'm fond of) can be horrible when people aren't evenly-matched or someone just knows all the two-letter words etc to score highly off. Chess needs to be properly 'matched' too. And older games tend to end when they end, even if they take hours. Cluedo was my fave simply because it didn't go on forever (despite having to 'roll and move' between all the rooms - in a similar type of game today you'd just use one of your turn 'actions' to immediately go there)!
Modern games deal with these issues so well. They are mathematically designed to end within a certain time and also to give every one a decent chance, even though skill will always factor too.
Got kids? Get them one of the Forbidden games in the tins (Forbidden Island etc). They are actually cooperative! They get roles to beat the game and work together. pt |

Card game was strip poker with a guy we met. Board game was years ago when we had a games evening with a couple we knew (non swinging). The guy was very odd and kicked me under the table hard enough to hurt when I was beating him. |

"When was the last time you played a board game or a card game and what's your favourite? "
I play backgammon every week. Not last week though because I played cribbage instead.
I enjoy Scrabble in a half hearted sort of way and enjoy a game of Rummy.

We play board games every now and again. We will invite friends around and have a few drinks too so it's really sociable.
Board games have come on such a long way since the days of Monopoly. Catan, Pandemic and Betrayal on the House on the Hill are current favourites xx |
