Putting this out there as I think there are many in the same situation. Curious as to how others have dealt with a similar issue. Sorry if this is not a thread about if squirting is urine or not. .
I am pushing 50 and after years of dedicating myself to work, raising kids and family, I have no clue anymore how to form new friendships. Two of my closest friends passed away in the last couple of years due to cancer, others have moved abroad.
My wife can go out and walk the dog and end up with two new friends and a night out. I walk the dog, the most interaction I get is maybe a couple of people saying hello and what is it with the weather today.

Hahah, that made me laugh OP - about how your mrs can go for a walk and make new friends, my mrs is exactly the same!
My Mrs is very personable, nice and likeable - she easily makes new friends and gets invited out to nights out and stuff!
Me, the older I get the less of a fuck I give about making new friends lol! |

"If you have any hobbies see if there are any local groups near you that you could join and take it from there?
Good luck"
Hobbies? What are those? I laugh because I had been so dedicated to work and family, I had forgotten to take time for my own self. Many of the friends I had met earlier in life were through running groups & marathon training programs but after a bad run of injuries, I have been forced to give up on long distance running. I do need to find new hobbies and local groups. Thank You! |

I’m just pushy if I like someone I’ll invite them over or out for dinner, to play squash or box , or something I enjoy - male or female no difference. When you live in a country or move house and know zero people it’s normal. |

"I think it's harder for men to make new friends, if a man starts talking to a random person in a park we're classed as strange dog or no dog, but it seems to be acceptable for a lady to do it. "
(Some men) I'm a sociable guy and find it very easy to strike up a conversation |

Hobbies! Or join a local Rugby/Golf/Cricket club
My ex’s dad always said that when they moved to a new area the first thing he did was join the local Rugby Club. Go along to watch a game or just for a pint and sit at the bar. He said if you sit at the bar folk get chatting to you.
He also said it was an excellent way to meet folk who were local tradespeople, so kills two birds with one stone!

Losing two close friends sounds really hard, OP. As others have said, find something that you like and where you will be relaxed enough to chat with people. Maybe if that works out, you will start chatting to people on the dog walks. But someone above has a point - women can strike up random conversations in ways men often can't. I'm very wary of men wanting to talk when I am dog walking due to past experience.
Best of luck! |

Thank you everyone for the helpful advice, and private messages. Greatly appreciated!! I should have mentioned in my original message that I am an introvert, something I am normally very conscious of and dealt with in the past but I think coming out of lockdown, friends passing away, I just became a recluse over the last couple of years. I will be taking advantage of all of the great advice given and again, thank you very much!! |
