The Spanish FA is a closed old boys network and this is therefore totally unsurprising. The Spanish FA doesn't care about women's football and doesn't particularly care if the women's team ceases to exist.

I’ve just looked at the video because I wanted to see for myself what all the furore is about.

I’m might’ve missed something but was the kiss a result of over exuberance in the moment or intentional assault? I haven’t been following this story much but has the chap apologised for it? If so, surely that should be the end of it.

I don’t watch football but from what I’ve seen of the men’s game, they’re regularly patting each other on the bum and I’m almost certain that it’s without prior consent.

Can there be no leeway for genuine mistakes nowadays and an apology being enough of a redemption without resorting to legalities and the threat to have one removed from their job?

All seems like a mountain out of a mole hill to me, unless I am clearly lacking perspective and additional information.

If people haven't been following the story. This is just a final straw for the way their FA has been treating them in the last few years.

That why 12 of their first choice players were not qt the world cup. If you think its ok to grab a woman face and kiss her on the lips without asking, that says a lot about the person you are.

But this is not just a ordinary yobo after a few drinks. He's the head of his countries football and representing his country on the world stage.

He gets paid good money to be able to behave with dignity and control himself.

Thank you for the update.

I’ve had my face grabbed by women for a quick peck on the lips without my consent in a moment of joint celebration and over exuberance.

In this instance, by your description, it seems to be a final straw moment rather than the kiss in itself.

I have been trying to work out if this would have happened if he done the same thing to a male player.

Same moment, same win, same action?

Not trying to legitimise his behaviour, just wondering what people think ?

Even if it was a moment of exuberance, his subsequent arrogance and the closed ranks of the committee is appalling. Not because it was a female player, but because he was professionalism is very questionable.

Have you? They don't go around grabbing people forcefully by the face and forcing a kiss on their lips, nor do they grab their crotch and make lewd gestures.

If anyone thinks that behaviour is normal Latino/Spanish culture then you are utterly clueless.

Grabbing anyone by the face and implanting a kiss on the lips is no more Spanish than it is English or German. People have a very warped sense of what normal Spanish culture is.

Today at work a female colleague asked me what I thought of the kiss.I said to her that a kiss on the lips was not correct and it should be a kiss on one or both cheeks therefore Rubiales should be sacked. My colleague then showed me a picture where moments before the kiss Hermoso has her arms round Rubiales in a embrace and lifts him of his feet and asks me do I not feel that perhaps she is leading him on I said that whilst I could see where my colleague was coming from I still feel Rubiales is wrong and should be sacked.

Why sacked though? Can someone not make a mistake anymore without paying the ultimate price?

Why have we lost all sense of scale?

Yes, he definitely would be. Especially on such a public stage. It would be a horrendous look for the company and he would be out the door. Probably with a generous severance package but that is the fucked up world we live in.

We may apologise for things but ultimately it's our behaviour that is assessed and an apology MAY only slightly alter the assessment of us. Some things are beyond redemption, from just uttering of a quick 'sorry'.

And in a professional role, including employment, leaders need to be 100% appropriate in their behaviour.

"Yeah. He deserves every bit of censure. As do the RFEF.

Define 'every bit of censure'?

Sacking?

Banning from ever working in football again?

Banning from ever working again?

Criminal prosecution?

Jailing?

Death penalty?

Wheres your line?

My line is that criminal acts (sexual assault) deserve legal punishment(prison). Wild I know.

How is that relevant to this situation?

Kissing someone without their consent is sexual assault. Sexual assault is a crime. Crimes should be punished.

Ah so its sexual assault now is it.

And all perspective truly has been lost. "

If someone in a position of power forces physical affection onto you, without your consent, what else is it?

Because I will tell you that the minimum contact set for a regular battery (common assault) can be reduced to the unwanted/non consensual touching of the material a person wears. Never mind kissing them.

So really we only need to dicuss is kissing sexual in nature. Was the intention any form of sexual gratification? I'd say yes.

You would say no, I assume?

Which would still meet the minimum requirement for a battery. A crime. Punishable by the criminal justice system.

Look at the video. Hermoso's feet are off the ground at one point. How is she "leading him on" by lifting him off his feet. "

I just don't get why a kiss is counted as sexual assault - does a handshake count as well? Lips aren't a sexual organ any more than hands - I do plenty of sex-stuff with my hands, and I have two of them

I felt sorry for him, probably had a couple of drinks and let him self down with his behaviour. Bottom line is he caused offence to all women footballers and his apology was not adequate for them. It's Their call really, as well as their game and how they want it to be.

"Press coverage is ridiculous."

It always is. But this is a real story that ran as it did *because* nobody stepped in. He wouldn't resign and took to lying instead - pretending the kiss was prearranged and thus suggesting the 'perfidious woman' is at very least hysterical.

There's plenty of people out there who'd like to crab his crotch I tell you, and not for sexual reasons.

It's a story, and one that resonates deeply in terms of what far-too many 'modern masculine men' see women as being. It's a nightmare.

Fuck it, I'm copying this from the other thread.

I've been spending a lot of time with young men lately (throughout their 20's mainly), a number of while are really into Andrew Tate. They really, really admire him. The wild conspiracy theorist who made his money from grooming vulnerable young women for his webcam business (ie by coercing them into it - only to find that even Romania now has its own laws relating to that) and who charged 50 dollars a month for masculinity lessons to aspiring young males that included lessons like "Grab, slap, ch*ke, shut up b*tch - sex." (it's all on audio/video record of course).

The idea that men can take ownership of women's bodies *in any way* is totally unacceptable. When men like this lay their unwanted hands on each other, it's either called bullying or it's called war. But when they do it to women it's now too-often part of some kind of spurious and lazy-minded political (ie 'anti-woke') backlash. They see themselves as heroes of masculinity.

The Spanish guy, who just wouldn't apologise or resign (he decided to pretend it was pre-arranged instead - and of course women are ALWAYS duplicitous in these matters), will see himself as a hero I'm certain. And to many young men today, sadly he will be just that. When will the woman own up to lying about her agreement? is the kind of question the kids would ask. Despite only a few percent of expected r*pes-even (forget assaults) going to court, the kids are convinced - largely because of Tate and of course because of Trump - that there is genuinely a global epidemic of spiteful women attacking innocent men in this area - all to the tune where the statistics are pretty-much reversed (ie over 90% of the the most serious cases are viewed by them as conspired by women, and are not down to aggressive males at all).

It's incredibly hard for women to see any kind of justice in an area that is actually increasing over modern times (even if the recompense is just to recognise it happening and help slow it down). The time it has taken for FIFA to suspend this guy is ultimately evidence of that terrible fact, regardless of it being over this particular (and of course always unacceptable) level of enactment.

Oh come off it, you dont really believe that do you?. However a few things to consider. Unless youve been in that situation its impossible to say what anyone would do.

Not sure anyone is "defending" anything. There is no denying he made a mistake for which he has apologised. The debate is about turning it into such a drama. The media feeding it and a lot of hate from others. Its for the Spanish fa to sort out and its an unholy mess.

If they need to sack people for poor performance or gross misconduct etc fine.. But lets surely not let it be for a misplaced kiss. Im sure it's also true that some women have had to tolerate some shitty behaviours... And again... If the solution to that is sacking this chap... Fine...but conflating issues does any real issues a massive disservice.

"Interesting how the woman above whos played the whole thing down has escaped any rebuking, yet the men who offer up a similar opinion are set upon.

Funny that isnt it.

-I'm actually looking for this list of 'sensible women' who are playing it down.

Where are they?

pt

Who mentioned a list of sensible women?

Think the implication being if a woman isnt agreeing with the furore then she cant be sensible....how I read it anyway.

--Why make it so complicated when I'm clearly suggesting he sees 'playing it down' as the sensible approach!

Mind you, you do have a point...

Just remember people, criticism isn't cancellation. When certain people opine that "you can't say anything any more" they are usually too lazy these days to even-think of the final words... "without some annoying so-and-so criticising you or suggesting you shouldn't be doing it!" But in reality people have never had more freedom to say whatever they feel like from dawn to dusk imo, certainly in my days anyway.

pt

Who are you referring to in your comment? Whos this 'he' who is saying that playing it down is the sensible approach?

"

I dunno, the guy who's been saying Rubiales losing his job is a step too far?

He hasn't just shown incompetence anyway, (not just the crotch grab apparently - he has history) and kissed the way he did, he's slandered Hermoso knowing full-well that women are very often portrayed as 'liars' in these matters. I believe her 100%. Don't you? He's an utter coward hiding behind horrible politics imo.

I didn't reply to anyone with my original post - it was a standalone post. Not that it matters, of course. But if you honestly think I'm too scared to disagree with a woman in case it affects my chances of getting my leg over, you've not been paying attention.

(But obviously no reason you should have been...)
