So I'm currently in hospital feeling very sorry for myself. I have quinsy and severe tonsillitis that has spread to my neck glands. The pain is unbelievable. Has anyone had this before? Please tell me this is going to get better. If you've had it, how long did it take you to recover? They said I'm probably having surgery tomorrow

Will they take them out while infected or will I have to wait for it to heal?

Sorry to hear of your suffering.

A family member suffers too with recurring severe tonsilitis and it crap with ever changing and increasing anibiotics and anti inflammatories.

Surgery is the ultimate solution or else it will keep ocurring.

I hope all goes well for you.

The only plus point is a shameless ice cream diet until it calms down.

As an English teacher I’m going to say I’ve no idea but just enjoy the ice cream!!!

Having mine out changed my life because that’s when they found I am diabetic.

Relax

Ask the doctors

Get out soon

The mad head trips were awesome not!!!!

I've had it, you'll be fine in a couple of weeks. Come to think of it I haven't had tonsillitis since being hospitalised with quinsy (about 15 years ago) and I used to get it twice a year.

Are they removing your tonsils??

Or draining the pus from the infected area?

If just draining ask about having your tonsils removed to help stave off further infections in the future.

And gargling with warm salty water will help keep any infection down

You are definitely in the right place, I had this many years ago i was suffering from a very nasty sore swollen throat and a fever however the doctor who came said it was just a sore throat and gave me antibiotics which did nothing, so called him again and he came and said it was still a sore throat and the meds needed time to work, the next thing i remember I was lying in a hospital bed a few days later, the swelling had burst and ended up in my lung. To cut a very long story short(7 months) I needed a major operation and had part of my lung removed......

I feel for you I really do but it seems your has been caught at the right stage so your going to be fine and jumping around like a bunny on steroids in no time.

Relax and recover x

local, but not too local

Couple of weeks. If they take them out you’ll never miss them.

The salt gargles are a good idea, similarly soluble aspirin.

They encouraged me to eat abrasive things afterwards to promote healing but those fruit pastille lollies were a lot better!

Bloody hell. Yes they said incision and drainage but not having my tonsils out for a couple of months apparently as it's not just Quinsy, my entire tonsil is covered in infection with tonsillitis and they don't want it to get in my bloodstream

My daughter had this last year, had the incision and drainage done with only a local injection of anaesthetic as an emergency in A & E - after she'd been left for 5 hours severely dehydrated before they even put her on a drip

She was sore and weak for a few days and it was about 3 days before she could open her jaw properly, fatigued for a couple of weeks. Oddly, she had never experienced tonsillitis before the incident - or since.

Best of luck with your recovery.
