This morning a dear friend of mine sent me a photograph of their breakfast: croissants and ketchup.

Rest assured that two things are currently playing in my mind:

· my confirmation that these two things do not go together.

· evaluating the viability of keeping this friend.

Oh the horror

Are they still a friend?

Pass me the smelling salts

(But no - they do not belong together)

Was the ketchup squeezed on the top?

Or was the croissant cut and ketchup in the middle?

Or maybe used as a dip.

Either way all very wrong.

Why does it matter? It's all getting mixed up in the digestive system anyway! So, I say, let them enjoy it the way they like.

Was it at least some sort of gourmet ketchup farmed by virgins who sing lullabies to the tomatoes?

Oh my god that's disgusting. I am very upset at the thought of a lovely flaky croissant being dipped into ketchup.

Was it Heinz ketchup?

Have you never tried bratwurst in a croissant?

Croissants cut in half with butter and crispy bacon and Tommy sauce is amazing as is a hot croissant with cheese and ham inside and melted cheese on top.

Just saying like.

Not ketchup. Sausage rolls don’t require saucing.

Besides I’m saucy enough (Badum chhhh)

I’m so confused by the logistics of this. How was the ketchup applied to the croissants? Or did the photograph just show them in close proximity and leave the rest to your imagination?

When I'm out n about grabbing a quick bite to eat in a caff type place, I have to use menu's to hide the sauce sachets and squeezy relish etc bottles from view. Yuk

I'm very late, so you may have already declared your "friend" persona non grata, but I came to say something similar.

If your friend was eating one of Pret's divine ham and mozzarella croissants, I could just imagine a splodge of ketchup would work there...a glimmer of hope if you want to make this a yellow rather than red card offence!

Wagyu steak, medium rare, with ketchup, American mustard, and mayo?

Is that worse?

Did you take a wrong turn in the Fab Corridor? This is about croissants and ketchup; 'not steak!
