Watched a few episodes, but I couldn't get into the Wire.

Idris Elba, who is in the Wire, is also in Luther so I'll recommend that.

Otherwise, Luther's ex-wife is played by Indira Varma, who also stars in Human Target... which I've not watched yet so may be rubbish.

As well as Indira Varma, Human Target also stars Mark Valley who also appears in Fringe - that's a good series.

Fringe was written by J J Abrams, who also wrote Person of Interest.

Person of Interest starred Jim Caviezel, who was also in the remake of the Prisoner (along with the lovely Ruth Wilson who played Alice in Luther).

Sara Stewart, who also appeared in the Prisoner, played the part of Jean Shales in Fresh Meat - another series you might want to consider.

Hope that helps you find something to watch

I couldn't fit it in to my tenuous links earlier, but Dexter is the greatest show on telly (along with Breaking Bad, but you said you've already seen that).

If you liked the Shield you'll love Sons of Anarchy.

Same writers I think and a lot of Shield characters pop up. I'm hooked on it.

Dexters a great show too. Recommend them both equally!

wire is probably the best tv i ever seen but you do have to stick with it a bit as the story builds slowly at the start. the way the story arc builds and the way each season gives you another aspect is superb - its so much more than a story of cops & dealers in baltimore, its a densely layered examination of the problems of the modern capitalist post-industrial city with no real good guys and bad guys. sopranos is btilliant too , superb writing and acting
