Please, no nastiness, it's cool to debate but let's try to be adults
Not saying no men allowed but it's focused on periods.
I cannot stand long enough right now to shower, the bath gets too messy (you know what I mean) but I'm longing to soak, and feel clean, I'm contemplating the bath first and then drain the water, when I get up I'll use the shower to proper clean on the quick. The only problem once I've done that and sat in bath towel I'm exhausted and need to clean all over again
Does anyone experience this? |

Is your fatigue from your period? If so, please try to see your doctor.
Would a tampon while in the bath help? Or maybe a sponge bath while sat down (not as clean as a shower, but better than nothing)? |

Could you get a chair for the shower? I don’t know what price they are but I imagine there will be plenty online.
Sorry you’re having a tough time OP |

Are you on any form of contraception? I used to have the worst periods ever with unbearable pain and I need to be on some form of contraception now or they come back.

Would a menstrual cup work for you while you have a bath? Baths certainly helped me with the cramps etc but I was lucky in that flow wasn't ever that bad. Sending cwtches, being a woman socks at times! X |

I use the cup for baths. I don’t trust it in any other situation.
My periods are insanely heavy (super plus tampons hourly and still flooding)
The Dr has put me on high dose iron, folic acid and b12 to try to fight the anemia and fatigue and it has helped a bit. The folic acid and b12 seem to be reducing the tiredness a bit and bizarrely reducing how heavy my periods are.

This in one time I won’t post something stupid ot smart arsed.. OP - im guessing you’ve already sought medical advice but if this os something that is concerning you then you have to get to the bottom of it and I’ve seen plenty of threads on here regarding the woeful state of womens healthcare - don’t be fobbed off , be demanding, be a pain in the arse, get a second opinion, cause a fuss - force them to take note of your concerns. It’s something I genuinely care about for reasons im not going to bring here but you have to kick up a stink to get treatment and you mustn’t just accept glib - it’s your age or its to be expected… hopefully your gp is one of good ones that sees patients as more than a 15 min consultation fee xx |

Am I right in thinking this is am ongoing situation of some years? Do you have anyone who can help you? If I remember correctly you're getting little or no help from the medical profession.
All I can suggest is that you have something disposable ready for when you get out of the bath or shower so cleaning up is kept to a minimum.
What have things come to when women are left in this condition with no help? |

OP, sorry to hear you're struggling. Regarding shower chair someone suggested- DO NOT buy them if you have mobility issues! I thought they'd be great to use in my bath tub when I could not stand long enough for even a quick shower after I broke my knee. Got at least 2 different ones, made sure they were anti-slip and heavy duty only to have both buckle under me! I promise you, I am not THAT heavy!
Eventually, I got myself a bench that sits on top of my bath and never looked back. I have had it nearly 4 years now. |

As you know, SS, I've had similar recently. We no longer have a bath to soak in, just a shower. I have a shower chair for that. I use a menstrual cup, change it immediately before the shower and I keep a red hand towel (old one) near the shower. I wedge it between my legs as I'm getting out, then put it on my wheelchair to stop anything leaking onto the chair. Once dry, I'd probably empty the cup and reinsert, clean up with wipes and then put heavy duty period pants or super duper towels on my underwear.
Menstrual cups are very good but there's a hell of a lot more choice than just Mooncup or what's sold in Boots. Mine is a MeLuna shorty XL, designed for low cervix/prolapse. It's very good, even when emptying it hourly/two hourly.
And echo the comments about iron etc. |

Hi op
I used to have heavy and messy periods, I remember asking my mum when I was starting them was it okay to wash whilst on my period. I felt so much better for a wash.
I would speak to your doctor about not being able to stand.

This is horrible
I don't have any new advice really but the cup sounds like a good shout for the bath.
Maybe try having some maternity pads on hand. You could place them on the closed toilet seat so you can sit down right away when you get out without worrying about mess. The BV brand or Medicare are the best. Sending hugs

I suffered with this from starting my periods and the only thing that helped was contraception which I had to go on at 14 to cope and even then had to have multiple iron fusions each year because of them. The pain was excruciating. I have now started going through peri menopause and hrt patches and they have brought back the uncontrollable bleeding, tiredness and pain and I am absolutely miserable. I use a shower chair and sit with the water on my back. Currently on week three of it. I would love to have a bath but just can’t. Sending you lots us of love (rainbow

I can empathise on the heavy bleeding. I go through super absorbent tampons and pad every hour on days 2 and 3… it is horrendous.
If you really want a soak, the cup or tampon ideas mentioned before sound good, as well as perhaps lining the outside of the bath with an old sheet- one that you can use just for that and throw in the wash once finished? x |

I have iron deficiency anemia which wasn't diagnosed til I refused to leave the docs office till I had blood test, that was several years ago and can only rely on foods as i get migraines with medication.
I can't physically get to putting in the cup, my belly is too big and can just about wipe after loo. it's one of the reasons of losing weight, to be able to get to my fanny to start with, to put it bluntly lol.
There's weight limits on equipment and cost. My bathroom isn't able to take equipment and where I live....people don't come because of the ASB.
It's been covered on other threads but what's not helpful for me is strangers obviously being agoraphobic, having locum docs isn't beneficial for me and trying to explain to different docs is frustrating especially when they don't believe you.
BTW I have had a bath since last posting
I just laid on my front and pushed up on to my knees to get out
Thank you all to those that posted,I do honestly appreciate it x |

"Sorry to hear you are having a rotton time.
Have you ever had a discussion about a mirena with a healthcare professional?"
Had it in for 4 years 3 months doesn't work but they won't remove while bleeding. Go figure |

I had similar issues with consistent heavy bleeding. Coil did work for me eventually but also my GP prescribed norethisterone which did eventually slow and then stop the bleeding.

Omg you poor girl totally get this. From what I understand the flow gets worse as we approach the menopause and with hormonal unbalance. I’m 46 and for the last couple of years my periods have been horrible just what you’re experiencing. For me it makes me feel so dirty I’ve no more advice than what’s been posted other than if you’re not happy with what your doctor is saying get a second opinion!!! Don’t be fobbed off there’s more understanding all the time regarding peri menopause. I really feel for you. X |

There are lots of medications to help with the bleeding, particularly if causing anaemia. You have a mirena coil, you can get a progesterone only pill to take as well to reduce bleeding. Are you sure coil still in, it could have come out of that heavy? Also tranexamic acid when you start bleeding can really help.
Im sorry you're not having much luck with locum doctors. Perhaps of you know what to ask for it would be easier?
Good luck |

Not everyone responds to these options though. The OP has stated she's had or still has a Mirena yet is still bleeding heavily. I'm supposed to have zero bleeding because I'm on ProStap yet bled the most heavily of my whole life recently, to the point I became anaemic and had to go to A&E. Medics are baffled about why I'm bleeding still, it's theoretically impossible.
Lots of people can't tolerate hormone therapies, especially in tablet/systemic forms. ProStap is supposed to suppress oestrogen completely, yet, here I am. |

You can still bleed after prostap, depends the indication for taking it.
And yes OP says she has the mirena in, but also has a large BMI. Sometimes a double mirena or combining mirena with POP can be indicated. I'm not saying it will help the OP, we don't know the cause, or other factors relating to her specific case. I was just suggesting if she can't get out to gp, or connect with a locum, that if she had something specific to ask then it might help.

Well, the gynaecologist I saw yesterday was of the opinion I should not bleed on ProStap, much less bleed that heavily.
The OP has considerable challenges with accessing the right healthcare support, unfortunately.
Waiting lists just to be seen by a gynaecologist now top a year in many places so unless one is already "in the system", it's a long wait to start trying to get to the bottom of things. |

I can tell ya this is the 2nd coil I've had in, the first one they did a smear a scrape and put it in, I felt sick but they sent me on my way. I begged to get it out as i could feel it and it took 3 different people to get it out. Then a hysteroscopy that was inconclusive and they put this coil in even though I said it doesn't work. I've tried norethistorone, tranexamic acid, mefenamic acid, individually, a combination of 2, combination of all 3 which should never have been advised as it lead to chronic nosebleeds.
18th June was the only day this year that I woke up not bleeding, made an appointment, got myself geared up to leave the house and started bleeding before I left, rang the surgery to say I was bleeding and they refused the appointment to remove it.
I won't give up. I've gone through the stage of not wanting to be here and turned that into 'I'll be damned if I'm ignored, you will listen' attitude

Access to gynaecology really is challenging. It is a 90 week wait for routine gynaecology referrals here. And because its women's health people are not jumping up and down about it! The managers and powers that be need to realise the effect these restrictions are having on women and the cost to society.
I would urge people to contact their MP and campaign for more funding and resources to go to womens health! |

But it's just period pains, innit?! And pregnancy etc is all natural n stuff, and nothing bad ever happens during/after pregnancy.....
*Sarcasm alert*
The attitudes that pervade society are why women's healthcare is under resourced and written off as less important than other specialties. But we know that, I think. It says something when the NHS has only JUST added information about adenomyosis to the NHS website in the past few weeks (after very public campaigning by Naga Munchetty and others).
But my entire disability and related health problems are pregnancy and gynae related, so I'm going to stop hijacking SuperShy's thread now.
Please don't stop trying to get things sorted for yourself |
