Worst car you ever drove

Mine was my late father's Hillman Minx which he bought from new.
Engine in the boot prone to head gasket leaks, boot compartment at the front, stiff imprecise steering, gear shift like moving a screwdriver in a toolbox, cramped interior.
Only decent feature was it's bright red paintwork |

"Mercedes A Class.
I really don't automatic's for starters and it was horrible.
Automatics are just like go karts! So fun to drive!"
The automatic I liked driving was a ford Mustang. God that car sounded so dam sexy. |

"Hard to narrow it down but pretty much all Vauxhalls built since the mid 90s. Absolutely no redeeming features. My dads old Zafira stands out as a particularly shite car. "
We had a Zafira for 7 years and it was a fantastic car for reliability and practicality. |

The worst cars I’ve ever driven are the ones that commit the cardinal sin of being boring. Nothing worse than a dull, uninspiring car.
So maybe a Chrysler Ypsilon. I lost the hire car lottery that day, for sure. |

A courtesy car. Yellow Vw fox with a clutch that was on its final days. Not only did it look horrible it was horrible to drive and I couldn’t get it started a couple times - typically over a bank holiday weekend too! |

I think you are a little confused, the car you are referring to sounds rather like the Hillman Imp, the Hillman Minx did not have the engine in the boot. |

"A BMW was like a tin can on wheels"
That’s a good point actually. And a decent question: What’s a car everyone else loves and you just don’t?
I’ve never driven a BMW and enjoyed it. And yet I *know* they make good cars. Is it me? Every one I’ve tried felt disconnected from the road. Like driving a comfy armchair instead of a car. |

Volkswagen Polo - made me feel seasick by time I got anywhere.
A new Volkswagen Golf tdi - was faulty and kept cutting out at the most dangerous moments
A new Mini when they first came out - the windows kept dropping down for no reason and it was really annoying.
Peugeot 207 - everytime it rained the inside footwell filled up with water |

Audi A4 I made the mistake of buying one while it was still fairly new. 4 repairs under warranty in the first year of ownership then the engine management light came on at around 45k miles. Luckily my friend was the service manager at the dealership and he told me to get rid of it quickly as it was a common fault so he reset the light and along came a Mazda which was a far better car! Audis are hugely overrated and seem to account for 6 out of 10 cars on the road these days |

I looked at buying a Mercedes C class about 6 years ago so test drove a brand new 3 litre diesel model. It was the dullest thing I'd ever driven ! When I got back to the dealership the sales guy suggested I try an E class. I took one look inside and walked away. Good cars but so dull and boring ! |

A Seat Arouser sounds like a vibrating sex toy you put on a chair.

Lada Samara and Lada riva my old man had both but repair wise so simple 10 tools including a hammer and you could repair it anywhere. (Trust I did. with both and a handy Haines manual) Can’t repair anything new now unless you have a degree in mechanics and computer science lol |

Many years ago and I'm talking early 90s I used to play tennis every week and we would take it in turns to drive. One of the lads turned up in a Lada one night and as we were heading to the indoor tennis place with the wind whistling through the gaps in the windows, the gearbox wining and the odd miss fire I naturally assumed that this car was 10 to 15 years old (they never changed shape for years and were based on the old Fiat 124 I think?). When we arrived at the tennis place and got out the car I was shocked to discover that this car was brand new ! What a piece of crap !! |

I totally agree.
Also a Citroen Saxo. Felt more dangerous than any motorbike I've ever ridden and not in a good way. |

Never driven one but my cousin did, clipped a curb on a roundabout, rolled and killed his wife and newborn. I hate them. "
Mother's friend drove us in a Reliant Robin once. Fucking hell, it was terrifying. Never again |

Engine in the boot? That'll be a Hillman Imp. Yep, terrible car...I had one, too. |

Sounds like a hillman imp to me? The minx was much more conventional. The imp was a great concept but failed through car building industry attitude of the 60s? |

Mid 90's rover 220D (the model before the bubble arse one). Desperately under powered and if you needed to change direction, you had to send the request by letter 28 days in advance.
Also, i had two people crash in to it in less than a month- second one as i was driving it home from the repair shop |

A lotus
Genuinely an old neighbour had one and he asked if I’d like to drive it, at the time my excitement was through the roof but on return I hated it and never had any affection for super sport cars since |

Thanks for correcting me "
My dad had an Imp too. Parents used to drive us kids to Whitley Bay on holiday in it. Four kids in the back and one was constantly Car sick. Was traumatic |

More cars are autos, all electric ones for a start. I really do think learning the multi tasking of manual driving makes one think more about what you're doing, and you are more "at one" with the vehicle. I can no longer use the clutch but I chose to get it adapted to hand operated rather than buy an auto, such is my dislike of them. I HATE slow auto gearboxes |

Ford mondeo
It was one of the first batch following the Sierra
I think mine must have been built at half past three on a Friday afternoon of a bank holiday weekend
What a pile of shite it was and the main dealers were terrible in repairing all the faults. An example being, it had a leak that rotted a tail light cluster
The dealer disassembled it, said it was unrepairable and left me with no lights all on that rear side of the car until a replacement unit was delivered
They fitted that, but didn't fix the leak, so exactly the same thing happened again two months later |

FSO pickup only three months old at the time, drove like a 1950s tractor, accelerated like it was wading through custard, and the track rod fell off at an asda fuel station leaving it blocking the pumps with both front wheels facing different directions |

About 10 years ago my hubby disappeared with his business partner to collect a pickup his company had bought from Hereford somewhere.
About 8 hours later, a low loader turned up with, a golf R32, an Audi S5, and an Audi S3, that they’d done some kind of deal for. All second hand and fairly new.
The S3 was for me. It was hands down the most uncomfortable and stiff thing I’ve ever been in. I made him get rid of it 2 weeks later.
Boys and their bloody toys! |

Given a courtesy car back in 2007 or whatever, when I have a Citroen C5 in for repair...a Fiat Punto.
An absolute shit box made of plastic. Every button, any surface including the gearstick felt like it was about to snap off. Took it on the motorway and felt I was about to die so ended up pootling along at 55 behind a truck, absolutely terrified. I've driven a lot of cars, but that was easily the worst. |

A Fiat Stilo which I was given whilst my car was in the bodyshop.
Ugly, slow and a dash so badly organised by the time you found the button you were looking for you were heading straight to the scene of another accident!
Oh and it was a Fiat |

Easy - Citroen C1! Absolutely atrocious car! Barely road-worthy! Bloody dreadful thing! And dangerous! Hope I never ever have to go near another car like it! A disgrace to the French and to the car industry! |
