My mate…

My mate is massively into conspiracy theories, about literally everything. He’s really fallen down the worm hole.

He’s so aggressive over it it calls everyone ‘blind’ ‘stupid’ ‘sheep’ etc for even trying to discuss things with him, he actually refuses to discuss and immediately shuts you down with insults.

This all started with flat earth theory.

Anybody else know anyone like this?

It literally puts the willies up me

I had a builder once who saw conspiracies everywhere. It was exhausting to listen to and try and engage.

some of my family.

"uh huh" "interesting" etc do a lot of work for me.

If they want me to say anything interesting we need to share some common reality.

Like the crypto bros really, “it’s the future of finance!” Yeah, obvious fraud and Ponzi schemes are totally the way to go.

Conspiracy theorists and crypto bros are a match made in heaven!

I have a friend who’s similar but he does occasionally listen to other opinions but he believes every bit of tripe he reads or hears in the media or on social media

My usual response is “does it affect you, your family, anyone you love” and the answer is 99.9% “no” to which I reply ”who gives a shit then”

Safe to say he’s stopped telling me any of this BS

I worked with someone pre pandemic, when I got to work he was watching infowars, at breakfast, infowars. At lunch, infowars. While we were actually working he spouted bollocks.

The day he told me I'd been blue pulled was his last day. He's entitled to his opinion but I didn't need an 8 hour lecture everyday

As soon as someone calls me a sheep or worse 'sheeple' I switch off. If one of the conspiracy theories does turn out to be true I'm going to be last to know

The podcast Knowledge Fight is fun, although I often fast forward through the Alex Jones and stay for the break down

I don’t really like that level of dismissiveness. That usually causes more division and pushes people into the arms of those who are even more extreme.

I listen to people and I try to read up a little so I can at least understand what they’re talking about, and then lend them an ear or talk about it back and forth. It’s not all Ponzi schemes and fraud - there’s usually a degree of truth to all “conspiracies”. It’s just a case of separating the craziness from the valid points.

Most of the time you hear someone blabbing about Bitcoin, if you dig a little deeper you find that really their concerns are about digital currency and the future of banking.

You can easily steer stuff back to “real” topics if you take the time to listen and empathise.

Yep I lost a good friend to it. I used to humour his insistence on extra terrestrials and secret governments. But when he got broadband and YouTube that was when things stepped up. Then it was Alex Jones and 911 was an inside job. That's when I parted ways with him. I've been told he's went full antivax and COVID denying but I would cross the road if I saw him coming towards me. It's a fucking because he was a really decent fella.

Princess di death

JFK - obviously 2 shooters

911 - so many many questions on this one

Remember when mobiles first came out,the idea you could be tracked and found by your signal was a conspiracy theory.Hiv/Hep in blood transfusions and the cover up was a conspiracy.Plenty more examples.

Doesn't mean they are all true.Conspiracies work by people automatically dismissing them as conspiracies.

He’s crazy mad into flat earth, 911, covid and big pharma are his main stays, however he’ll find something for everything to be fair.

There's a few I know who believe in 1 or 2 conspiracy theories who you can still have a rational conversation with. There's one who fell fully down the rabbit hole and now believes pretty much everything is a conspiracy, it's impossible to talk about anything sensibly anymore so we have naturally drifted apart. It's quite sad really to see someone change so dramatically. I think there are phycological/mental heath issues at play with some of the most extreme conspiracy theorists.

We've got a couple of them at work

One is heavily into the idea that one or two families control everything

The other is off the deep end telling us the world is flat,

The con trails of planes are actually "chem" trails and we're all being poisoned.

He's not quite there with the "gravity is a hoax" but it won't be long.

Doesn't trust Dr's, police, social etc

Can't see any way of gently getting him to see he's mental.

Yes nothing at all once you see past working with a foreign adversary, the two impeachments, trying to overturn an election. Then there is the courts finding he is a rapist. And then there's the multitude of criminal indictments

Aside from that and more. What else is there.

Thank you for jumping in .

Which of the things you mentioned have been proven to be true?

The foreign adversary thing has been proven to have been paid for by Hillary Clinton and the DNC

The impeachments mean absolutely nothing and didn’t show any proof of wrongdoing. What they did show was that the people impeaching him doctored pictures and other evidence to try to make the story more believable.

If we are saying objecting to the election results is trying to overturn them, you can add any number of former runners for president who didn’t agree with the result to the list.

The courts didn’t actually find him to be a rapist did they.

Ohhh the indictments. I’ve taken the time to write this so please read and take in what is put here. It’s all public knowledge and available on many platforms

I dunno, it's like anytime Trump is in trouble the GOP hone in on some old guff about the Bidens to keep the MAGAS occupied. Come on, it's not like we're immune to dead cats in the UK.
