Now we hear some Findus product have been found to contain 100% horse meat
So does this show there is a potential market for horse meat here,,,
Because obviously people have been happily eating albeit unwittingly?

I do believe a big market in France for horsemeat. Latest claim is crooks etc involved but what happened to the quality control and testing that is supposted to be in place from raw ingredients to finished product.

Obviously our food chain should be protected by legislation and controls,,,,
But some of the public concerns about eating horse seem to be emotionally led rather than practical objections….!.
A bit like not wanting to eat a Dolphin or a Dog perhaps ……! |

You only have to see the horrors of the China dog meat trade to be thankful we have some morality in this country even if it is emotionally led. |

You only have to see the horrors of the China dog meat trade to be thankful we have some morality in this country even if it is emotionally led. "
I worked in the far east and seen good and bad animal husbandry…

I don't see why there is a problem with horse, bred and slaughtered correctly it is nutritous, healthy and plentiful. If people "choose" to eat it I don't think there is a difference to sheep, cow, chicken etc.
However, where I have a massive issue is major food producers seemingly not having a clue what is in their food and misleading the public on numerous levels. I predict a class action for damages and the end of Findus as a trusted brand.
If I was at the FSA I would have no problem immediately closing the producers who have so comprehensively failed in their responsibilities. |

I don't believe anyone at the end of the chain ie Findus,Tesco etc etc have no idea what is in the food they are selling!!!! They are all so full of shit!!! And the public are so gullible to believe them!!! |

Instead of wasting all the food stick label on it saying may contain horsemeat and move on. Give it away or sell cheap or pass to food banks etc. Label could say may contain traces of shergar
End of day its edible and not poisonous. |

But have you seen the horrors of the European horsemeat trade? France likes it's horsemeat killed in the country so thousands of used working horses are shipped across Europe for days on end which, despite monitoring, still inflicts horrible damage and stress on the shipped animals.
For the record, I eat meat and I keep horses. I wouldn't chose to eat horse but accept that others will. I abhor animal cruelty, however, no matter which species. |

I was speaking to my mum about this at the weekend and she is a avid horse lover that was her source of income for 30 odd years and she said she was brought up on horse meat as it was affordable meat.. and her mum and dad loved it... |

Super markets are bound by law to ensure thier food is safe to eat, how can they do that if they have no idea whats in it. Some horse vacinations are toxic to humans, and no one knows where the horse meat has come from yet.  |

Think I'm not so much concerned about the horse meat being there as it is safe to eat, but I am now a bit concerned about what else could be in the food we buy without the knowledge of the stores...thing is how do you avoid it unless you cook everything from scratch yourself?
If they sold horse meat and labelled it as horse meat it probably would sell, but people should be informed about what they are eating so they can make a personal choice about whether of not they eat a particular animal for what ever reason they choose...be that religion, emotion or just plain ickyness! |

I make my own using normal mince as I find steak mince being too lean.
The fat would melt during cooking, leaving a nice a juicy burger when done.

I understand that the main concern is that some pills routinely given for horses are dangerous to humans and must never be allowed to get into the food chain. Major food retailers have now been asked to test their products to see if there is any sign of that chemical in the meat - very dangerous product if it turns out to be so. |

the issue isn't really the fact that it is horse...
but if the horse has been injected with a particular drug... long name, known as "bute" for short
bute can cause serious issues in humans... and because the drug stays in the horses system for their entire lifetime, no horse that has been injected with it is allowed in the food system...
the issue is because they never knew it was horse meat, they haven't done the bute checks... no bute checks and the FSA have to declare the stuff unsafe to eat.... |

The main worry for me is simple.
If the meat has failed the bute test and been rejected. has it then been sold cheap and is now being eaten by us all thinking "its only horse"
Will they tell us if it is and risk every single person in the UK demanding compensation.
Even £1,000 each would destroy the companies involved.
As well as a world ban on out exports. |

Even if we ignore all the other unsavoury aspects of this matter, it now appears this meat passed through several factories and was brokered by a number of agents between animal and ready meal.
No doubt each of these steps was creating a bit of profit for someone. |

Very glad we only eat whole foods and none of that processed shit. Heard on the radio today some woman said that in modern life, people just don't have time to make their own burgers. What a load of shit. They take seconds to make and are so much better than anything you'll buy in a shop.

My niece in Oz just ordered 7 apples with online shopping but got 7 kgs of them and complained .I sked her why did she complain because if that was here she would have got 6kgs of horsemeat and 1 kg apples |
