Dear Ladiës, Nøn-Binariës and Persons of Interest...
This morning I bumped into a rather excitable friend - just outside my favourite caffeine haunt - who gleefully informed me about all the weddings she would be attending over Summer. The upshot was that she would be looking to buy a few inexpensive dresses and outfits.
Ladies, what's wrong with wearing an existing dress from your wardrobe or something from last year? Why do you always have to procure a new dress or a complete outfit for a wedding?
Tell! Tell! |

It's an excuse to go shopping. Simple as that...
I guess there might be other reasons, like weather/venue/theme etc.
Often our weight fluctuates, so what fitted last year, might not this year.

Tell! Tell! " wear an existing dress?!
Personally I’d feel like an absolute hobo wearing something worn
New things MUST be bought for such occasions - 80% of the fun is the buying of outfits, not the actual event. The build-up, trying the outfits on, imagining the looks of admiration (if the outfits right!) makes the event |

If you are going to a wedding you certainly want to honour the couple by looking good and wearing something new.
And in any case, if the other guests are in your group of friends, why wear the same outfit twice.

A new dress makes it an extra special event.
An existing dress might not be suitable for the type of wedding, location, time of year.
New dress, new memories too. Ones that will always be associated with the dress. |

I’m now wondering whether getting you into a dress might be the kinkiest thing ever. So wrong but somehow right."
Good luck with that |

So do women have exceptional 'memory recall' to know what their friends wore last season?? |

They wouldn’t be saying that to the bride if it was her second or third wedding would they .
Bigger towns etc do have hire shops where ladies may find an expensive outfit for a smaller charge .
If I were always the same size I’d have saved a fortune in different dresses . |

It’s Manchester social weekend and I have not bought anything new so making sure I’m not wearing a summer dress that people have already seen for the pre social on Friday.
As for Saturday it’s a daisy dukes so no need to worry about the dress |

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon |
No idea. I hate shopping and avoid it at all costs for a myriad of reasons all surrounding feeling crap about myself.
I don't care if I wear the same dress over and over. If I'm comfy and happy then it is all good. Plus it cuts out a massive cost that I really can't afford |

I think I'm a rare breed.
I hate wearing dresses and I hate shopping for them even more. I own at present 4 dresses 2 were bought for weddings (one was over 10 years ago) and have never been worn again. And the other 2 have not been worn yet.
All were bought online because I hate shopping so much!
Reading the other posts on here I definitely think there is something wrong with me. |

Weddings are a great excuse to buy something new to look and feel good in.
I don’t want to bump into someone that’s seen me at another wedding wearing the same dress I don’t know why because there’s nothing wrong with wearing something over and over again. I’d have no issue doing it to any other event, I just think weddings are just a bit special |

I like to have the perfect dress for the occasion. I’m quite specific.
I have a couple of dresses that are brilliant and dress up or down & always fail safe look good.
I have a couple that have only been worn twice as they are really occasion specific. I wore one of these for only the second time at the weekend for my friend’s wedding (and felt a million dollars)
I have one that I have never worn out of the house because although it looks wonderful, I just haven’t had it’s occasion crop us yet.
There will no doubt be another occasion that crops up that will require a new dress.
And sometimes you know I’ll just see something and want to treat myself |

"Because of social media, this wasn't as big a deal before. My mother used to wear the same outfit to these kind of things, but with different accessories etc. "
This one for me, the pictures. This was the case in the past too but only for the closest friends and relatives, further removed guests could wear whatever and it wouldn't be immortalised
Curious about people saying new things are required - some cultures require new outfits for specific religious celebrations and it makes sense when people wouldn't prioritise outfits, to allow for this opportunity like... once a year. But for us right here right now when we live in such abundance I wonder if the meaning holds. |

Fashion and styles always turn around.
Some people outgrow certain things from activities places and even clothes they once enjoyed
Also if a person loses weight or gains weight then certain clothes won't fit like before
These days new styles are being invented into women's wear
Consider colours too, one of my closest friends use to always just wear black now she wears different colours and I'm like that to some degree hardly got much colour in my wardrobe |
