So today I bought a used car 3 years old the young lady gave a demonstration of how everything works as everything is electronic even to start the car you press the clutch and a button no actual key , lights will come on automatically when it gets dark and I am guessing switch off when there is daylight. I feel every old and daunted by it all.Did anyone else feel the same when they traded the old car in for a new one. |

Ours has got 5 driving modes that we never use, just leave it in normal all the time. It’s wasted on us. It also has regenerative braking which took a while to get used to, nearly all the other driving aids on it we’ve switched off. |

Yes, mine has light sensitive, rain sensitive, road sign reading technology, lane assist and active cruise control which is fantastic right up until the point where you need to have your broken windscreen replaced! Now I get more warning lights come on than I can be bothered to work out what they all are !! |

Our collision alert was going off every time you were anywhere near a parked car. I started getting in to the bad habit of setting it off on purpose so it’s now switched off along with the lane assist which felt like it was trying to rip the wheel out of my hands |

My Ford is 15 years old. Serves me well. I do think a lot of cars are loaded with tech for the sake of it. Even my mate with a newer Ford says the heating/cooling system is complex. I tend to agree having seen it. |

When I sat in my car on the day I got it and the inside looked like what you'd imagine a spaceship to be like then I was worried.
Took me longer to turn off all the functions and safety stuff I didn't want activated than it did to charge the bastard thing. |

Ours does too but only ever get about 35% for gear changing, I suspect that's because it's married to the gear change indicator, which on the Puma is shocking |

Yep, lane assist! Quite possibly the worst invention known to man ! It wouldn't be so bad but mine comes on every time you start the car so the first thing you have to do is turn the bloody thing off ! Why isn't it the other way around !! |

I had a car that did everything, three driving modes, auto switch on lights, auto dip lights,self parking, launch control, auto braking etc etc, now have a basic model and the only thing I miss is the auto wipers |

Thanks to everyone’s contributions on this thread I still feel old but less daunted than when I asked on this thread.I will be going back to the dealership tomorrow as I have a few questions for them.One of them will be when I got home there was 31 miles worth of petrol now it is saying 29 miles yet I haven’t gone anywhere and another is a symbol that has come up on the dashboard which I don’t know how it came up I guess I must have pressed something by accident. |

I'm selling my mobile computer starship and buying a couple of 20 year old things that just have fairly basic technology (although will still have stuff like ABS, traction control and bluetooth phone connection)- apart from that, they'll just have on and off buttons for stuff |

At the end of the journey, the fuel efficiency was X. Next morning, a cold engine, probably with a battery needing to charge up, the efficiency will be Y (where Y is less than X)
TL:DR - don't worry about the fuel. Also, put fuel in it, because range of 29/30 miles is basically empty and running on fumes |

I was surprised you could lose 2miles worth of petrol without going anywhere.My previous car was a 18 year old Corsa with no digital reading to say how petrol was left in terms of mileage.I will be putting £50 in tomorrow. |

Your old car will have displayed slightly different fuel levels depending on engine temp etc but it's just that the needle isn't fine enough to be very obvious. Much more obvious with digital readout. |

Too much tech it’s crazy. Reverse buzzer so annoying and can’t turn it off warning that tyres are under inflated if one drops couple of psi. Tells you for open when your passenger gets out. Leave me alone been driving many many years I know these things. |

My car is laden with technology too - there’s an automatic ch oke so you don’t have to remember to push it in when the engine warms up! It’s also got 2 speed wipers, just in case you need to drive to Wales.
Pretty high tech, but I think I’m on top of it  |

The art of turning perfectly good reliable cars into totally unreliable ones. All designed to trigger warning lights to keep you going back to the dealers over & over again to be milked of money. There is no other reason for all this guff on new cars. It makes them unaffordable & there's no need. |

I tended to go incrementally over 3-4 cars so I know what I needed.
I know I need Limiter but not fussed about cruise. Auto lights is a must as is rear and front sensors but I did not want cameras or side bar / lane drift sensors.
Heated massage seats and Car Play is nice to have but not essential, the automatic measuring of brake pad wear is essential to best of if pads without grooving the disks. The rest I don’t need , I like to drive myself

That's awesome good for you.
Whilst sitting in one of this counties many thousands of traffic jams you can be confident that when the opportunity arises you can drive like a racing driver in sporadic 30 second burst's until you meet the next traffic jam.

Whilst some of the tech is handy I'm more impressed with the B&O stereo than the car telling me I'm approaching a roundabout. I know, I can see it. |

. I went back today to ask a few questions and to get a battery for the central locking key that you need to start the car.The petrol thing is normal nothing to worry about. I am waiting for a call back as there is no handbook according to the receptionist the Fords from 2017 onwards do not come with a handbook it’s all online of Fords website just enter your car registration I have asked to salesman to call me back as I can’t believe there is no handbook. |
