Kathleen Hanna had a good approach to this. She constantly had thoughts when making art or writing songs or doing whatever, that ‘someone must have done this already’. Someone better, or more famous, or more successful must have already had her idea. So she gave that ‘someone’ a name. The Beast. So when she had an idea, she could say to herself ‘The Beast did it already. But screw The Beast. I’m gonna do it anyway. My way will be different.’ |
