Im watching this debate on tv about, a further step by the government to encourage people to quit smoking.
One thing that stands out, is the whataboutism - well what about obese people, and what about the alcoholics and what about respiratory issues due to mould and pollution.
Yes all of these are valid problems and all put strain on the NHS but why the distraction from the issue at hand? Should it be a competition about whos harming them self more and nothing gets done or should it be each issue of smoking, obesity etc on each issues basis. |

In any debate, people like to speak about something which is close to them, rather than sticking to the topic at hand, that's what chairs/hosts are for, to keep the topic in hand current.
Is it a good debate OP |

"I just wish they would quit telling people what to do so much.
They only care about people paying their bills and taxes really and truly "
Nanny state.Your body your life your choice.
Their isn't a decent host/presenter to keep people on topic or to tell them to shut the fuck up when they start interrupting, shouting down and talking over the top of people. |

That's right everything in moderation. Once a person isn't doing one thing excessively what business is it of theirs what other people do its just being nosey not concerned |

"Biggest shares mps have is in tobacco industry
Will they get rid.. Tax on tobacco. No. Just make it so expensive
"
An industry shrinking worldwide so the tax revenue is falling, that's why IR is looking at taxing vaping fluid. |

I'm not sure whataboutism is always a bad thing
Sometimes asking "what about" is a valid way using an adjacent problem to reinforce the point you're trying to make.
I think there's a reason why so many use "what about" in an argument... it's a way of trying to see things from a slightly different aspect.
I do agree though it can be used to distract from and convolute a problem. |

I'll elaborate, so they want people to stop smoking but continue to sell the products?? I mean.
It's like, here's some highly addictive substance that were encouraging you not to consume by making it highly available. |

Its what they do. Sleight of hand as it were.
Distract you with the illusion they care because it puts them in good light, but wanting you to do such things because it benefits them also.
Puppet master levels of control.
That is exactly what modern government is. |
