In the 1970's in a village i lived in, the local pub every Friday night used to be visited by the "Cockle man" He wasn't just selling cockles, it would be muscles, shrimps, prawns, whelks, jellied eels and crab. I love all of them and still eat any of them when they are fresh |

Shell fish was definitely part of my childhood. I remember taking the top hats off of winkles and pulling them out with a pin for my nan.
I'm not a massive fan now though |

I'm a whelk man myself not had any for year about hundred years ago
I did stint at buttlins doing various jobs redcoat been one of them but also on evening for. A few week sold shell fish in the bars going round with basket . |

My dad's friend worked on a fishing boat and he always brought my dad freshly cooked whelks. Oh they were so fresh and sprinkled with some vinegar and salt so delicious. Funny we were actually talking about this only the other day. |
