Harry Kane.

He might be off to Bayern Munich but what I want to know is who is the Prem’s greatest ever striker…

And why is it Alan Shearer?

I always fancied Alan shearer, I got his autograph when I was younger.

Harry Kane's doable as well.

And so ends my knowledge of football.

£110m for Caicedo wtf......£105.5m profit...

It's close between Shearer and Heskey tbh. Aguero was good but I think he could have been so much better. Van Nistelroy was an animal, but Henry has to be up there!!

Shearer was good.

VanNistlerooy was an absolute goal machine for United. So was Rooney.

Henry for Arse…

I always like Bergkamp too.

I think I’m the 90,s there were so many around in English football it was fantastic.

Goal poachers will always win that argument.

Liverpool had many like that. Skill wasn’t great, neither was the better choices, as they just saw the goal and shot. But their goals per match was right up there. And that’s what we saw.

Now, we have assists/ created chances etc.

look at Kane, he’s actually a good asset upfront for drawing defenders.

Shearer wasn’t a poacher. He could score every type of goal and even got a few assists. He adapted his game once he lost his pace and was still prolific in a shit team.

Okay. Goal scorer.

He was at a time when the game was a little more simple. Now, forwards are playing so many roles. Back then, you were a striker/goal scorer. That’s my point.

That’s a good debate.

The strikers of yesterday 80s/90s, could they fair well with todays tactics, formations etc. even goal keeping had changed. They’re like a 5th defender now.

My shout is Rooney. (Biased) but his record was ridiculous. He could score from anywhere too, and he could single hand idly win a game when he was in form.

As a striker you have one job, score goals. Shearer undoubtedly did that, as an out in out striker one of the best this country has ever produced.

But could easily name, a few players who were better footballers & more technical.

Shearer was a fantastic player and I enjoyed seeing him score for England many times. Football is different now though, the ball is kept on the floor much more and as a result there are fewer headed goals. So would Shearer have scored as many goals if he played in the modern era?

I imagine Haaland will get close to Shearer's record though but we aren’t comparing eggs with eggs.

In terms of goalscoring and types of goals, it probably is Shearer as he could do it all.

On the eye, maybe an argument for Henry as he just glided across the pitch and made everything look effortless.

Not sure if he's a striker but surprised Cantona hasn't been mentioned. Pretty much transformed Man United and probably the catalyst for the dominance that was was to follow and won the league I every season he finished with them.

Cantina is a footballing God! And is my all time greatest player. He was a forward, but it’s hard for me to argue a great goal scorer, or striker amongst other names. Simply because of the AMOUNT of goals others have bagged throughout their careers.

Because the question is specifically about the Prem. If anything this argument proves why Shearer is better than the rest named. He scored goals before ‘92.

"In terms of goalscoring and types of goals, it probably is Shearer as he could do it all.

Cantona was one of my favourite players growing up but not a striker really. One hell of a player though.

Cantina is a footballing God! And is my all time greatest player. He was a forward, but it’s hard for me to argue a great goal scorer, or striker amongst other names. Simply because of the AMOUNT of goals others have bagged throughout their careers. "

That's fair enough then if we're going purely off numbers

He could hold onto the ball and score somebody beat his record this year though mind but he was a prolific goal scorer, Harry Kane is only 30 so he's only 47 goals behind Shearer so should easily beat shearers record of 260

"Clive Allen, 49 goals in a season. "

The main man in the team of the 80s.

But sadly not qualified for this thread.

The market is in a state and Chelsea have a lot to answer for because Enzo for £100m + has inflated EVERYTHING.

The numbers being discussed for Caicedo and Lavia are crazy and they’ll both get moves this summer

Exactly. 100mil being the going rate for a CDM is mental!

Lavia for £50M I understand. Enzo i think was inflated because of the fact it was January. There’s an element of it just being an English football problem. Bellingham seems to be a steal.

Sancho £72m

Maguire £78m

Grealish £100m

I don't think you can lay the blame at Chelsea's door

English player tax for all three. Inevitable in England theyre worth more. Bellingham would go for £200M if an English club wanted him. He’s more marketable here I think. Sancho same. They make so much money for these clubs. Same with Sterling to Chelsea. All about marketing.

I get that but Chelsea sold Mount,Havertz and Kovacic for £140m. Kova was a steal at £25m but £60m for Kai? Christ! I can't see what Mount would add at Man U

If is pre season is any indication he's worse than I thought. He seemed to go thru periods at Chelsea where 3 differ t managers didn't trust him. Still, £55m. Kerching
