When the person telling the lie, believes the lie, then it’s not a lie is it? I mean, it’s still a lie but they don’t think it’s a lie because they believe the lie.

A lie is always a lie, if it is deliberate.

So a white lie might be "I like the cake you made for me" Even if it was burnt and dry.

Leaving out relevant facts, is a lie

Giving over specific true answers can be a lie.

Lies aren't always bad.

Arranging a surprise party may involve lying to the guest of honour, to preserve the surprise

But saying something that is wrong, if you believe it to be true, isn't a "lie".

A lie is a lie regardless. I think the motive behind it is the difference. Like telling my kids it's not going to hurt when I pull the splinter in their hand. I mean it's a lie but I need to get it out.
