Hi all
I was semi-diagnosed with PCOS about 5 years ago and I got my official diagnosis last month (though, of course, I’ve had this whole time, it’s just had a name)
I’ve started metformin today because it’s my hormones that are the issue
I want to lose some weight but every time I try I always seem to take 1 step forward and 2 steps back
Anyone else with PCOS have any dieting tips? I’ve been researching so much and there’s so much information it’s overwhelming
So some first-hand experience would be great !

I have just been diagnosed with pcos and I have just lost 3 1/2 stone. I downloaded a calorie counter- and started doing gentle exercise starting with walking workouts on YouTube. I also have been diagnosed with spinal arthritis so have had to take the working out gently.
I still eat things I want I just make sure I am in a calorie deficit.
Good luck xxx |

I dropped nearly 4 stone when I was on metformin for my PCOS, I portion controlled what I ate, tried to cut back on the amount of carbs I was having as they are not our friend with PCOS, and upped my exercise, I did at least 1-2 hours three times a week in the gym and just generally walked more. Unfortunately an injury/life circumstances has put pay to that loss and it went back on.
Trying to talk to my GP here now about getting back on it now I'm able to get back into the loss frame of mind

"I didn't know they prescribe metformin for pcos. I thought it was a diabetes ðrug."
Pcos causes insulin resistance so your body produces more to balance the lack of insulin absorption and then the body produces more testosterone because if that, its a never ending cycle. the metformin help keep all of it balanced and regulate those levels.
Yes it's a diabetes drug but it has been found to help pcos. It's like other meds that are used for headaches/pain etc that aren't actually for that purpose it's just been found to help
