Canada Water

I want to start working out again. Working from home means I don’t exercise as much as I used to.

I get nervous about going to the gym alone and a lot of the time I feel awkward.

Does anyone have any advice, tips?

Find something you actually enjoy, if you don't enjoy it you won't do it.

Do it at a set time and regularly, you miss one, it turns into 2 and you never do it.

* I don't follow any of this advice.

I decided to start seeing a personal trainer. I have to book a time & it's not exactly cheap- both of those things make sure I turn up!!

This. Once I found classes I actually enjoyed, it was much easier to go. I hate the gym, it's boring, but there is so much choice.

I've tried most of the classes at our leisure centre. Didn't enjoy boxercise (too competitive) didn't enjoy whatever the dancing one was but loved body balance, (yoga. Tai chi and pilates) aerobics, body conditioning, and even some of the HIIT ones for a while. (My knees stopped enjoying that one)

I found scheduled classes much easier to stick to, but look into sports too. squash, pole fitness, judo. Exercise doesn't have to mean weight machines and a treadmill.

But you do have to enjoy it to have the best chance of sticking with it.

Manchester (she/her)

Bodyweight exercises at home. Do ten squats while waiting for the kettle to boil. Little and often, sort of thing
