Nope, that's it folks. The reality tv stars and the professionally dim won with the consent of an apathetic public.

No renaissance, no enlightenment, just the rich pissing on the poor till the asteroid arrives.

I tend to agree with you, whilst science seems to be getting smarter people seem to be getting dumberer(see what I did there)

I think we have entered a downward spiral of stupidity, ignorance and hatred.

I think that barring a full on miracle there's only one ending for the human race.

I'm inclined to think that descriptions of historical periods are descriptive not prescriptive. "It seems that from years X-Y, there was a common theme of Z".

The present is what we make it.

As I've said before.

As long as I get to see Dune part 2 first I don't care.

I re-watched the original Dune film before I watched the remake (Dune 2021...pt 1). Gotta hope pt 2 is better, pt 1 was dire in comparison!

This. I think we are actually living through one of the greatest ages of all time. I know it doesn’t feel like it but if any previous age saw what we have - access to global knowledge, medicine, food, communications - they would think we were living like kings and queens.

It is very easy to lose perspective.

We are top of the food chain meaning there are no predators to take out the stupid.

Don't be so sure. Yesterday a 'human dog' popped on my social media. I'm sure he just made himself more exposed to predators by wearing that costume.

But what are we doing with all this knowledge? Instead of enlightenment it's just more and more division.. and it's this thats holding things back .

Well my advice would be stop using social media. It warps perspective and amplifies the noise.

You don’t need to listen to all that crap.

I don’t use any social media and the world doesn’t seem so dystopian to me as it does to those who wallow in it all day.

I keep away from social media too but so many people are on it and it really changes perspectives.

Everything has become us and them.. left and right .. friends and enemy's. Any comments taken out of context, offence sought out.. I honestly can't see this situation improving at all .

I repeat my point. Stay off social media. It allows _you_ to think more clearly and not get caught up in the excitement of the gossip of whatever non entity is currently fashionable. If others want to argue over ephemera then so be it.

These very forums are social media. They are hardly any different to Facebook and the rest. Same people arguing over the same bullshit nonsense.

We’re not in a dark age. Collectively we are the most privileged people who have ever lived. Unfortunately, we’re also rapidly spinning down towards extinction and the heat death of our planet. And it’s too late to do anything about that. So, er … upsides and downsides, I guess?
