Why is it that some people can’t simply say that they really like something, they have to say they’re addicted to it?

No, I don’t think anyone is really “addicted” to avocado or the latest box set.

I suppose it's just an over exaggerated way to express they like it so much, rather than a claim to actual addiction.

Similar to saying “I’m starving” when in reality I’m about 2 weeks away from actually starving.

It's just a way of adding extra drama/emphasis. People say they are OCD about cleaning etc. Proper OCD is life restricting. It's just harmless dramatic speech.

The number of people who've told me "I literally died" or "I'm literally dying here" but are still walking about 'literally' alive is astounding. Similarly the use of 'obviously ' prefacing every statement when it isn't obvious at all

A bit. I had someone trying to tell me yesterday they were “literally addicted” to avocado.

So because you think nobody can be really addicted to Avocado, means they can't be?

Looking into supra-addictive foods , whereby the brains association of foods that carbohydrates and fat are combined in a meal or food, the brain sees it as more rewarding than if it only contained one of the two. Exactly the same reward system at play as when we use drugs.....

Maybe because everyone has to be seen as ill, faulty, a victim.

Also "obsession" used in a negative way. If you want to get really good at something being obsessed is probably the best approach

I became obsessed with drinking a certain drink; especially during lockdown.

It became difficult to find and I would sweat and obsess about finding a shop that had it.

It felt like an addiction at the time; even with stomach pain when I couldn't get it.

What is addictive and what is an necessity to escape or something caused by stress?

For example I crave sweet stuff when I'm stuck at or near home. Chocolate all the time. Once I'm traveling and feel free I eat healthy. I understand it's a stress response.

Am I addicted? Yes at home, no when away, So...kind of? Complicated issue this

I wasn't enjoying my drink. I was jonesing for it and felt elated and relieved when I drank it.

I'd think about it as soon as I woke up, and drank it all day- two 900ml bottles a day at one point and bought it in bulk.

I still drink it but don't panic when I run out now.
