Would be ok to lay off the booze and the usual list of things but we've both been on a health kick, not a drink in two weeks!
Yes regularly take allopurinol and the cherry juice - in fact any dark skinner fruit helps, as do herbs as they anti inflammatory , but about twice a year it just flares up.
As a seasoned sufferer, I have come to the conclusion that if you have a propensity towards it, then all you can do is manage it.

funnily, mine flares up for no apparent reason, but soon as i feel a twinge which tends to be as i get out of bed in the morning i start throwing the diclofex down me and for a couple of days its uncomfortable but stops a full blown attack.

Red meat sets mine off a treat.
Get some Cherry juice from Sainsburys I was prescribed Colchine which did not have any affect so I put up with it now as its only in one foot. Sometimes it's gets so bad I can't even have the duvet on it.
33 years old and feeling everyone. |

I was around the early 30s mark when it made its first visitation. But like someone said above, just gotta get on with it.
Cherry juice is good, just cherries even better. Of all things to make mine worse is marmite!
Identify with not being able to have the duvet or bed clothes on it. The longest I've had it in one hit is two weeks.
Any advance??

I also suffer from gout.
My rheumatologist says not to drink alcohol (he's got no chance), Not to eat cabbage, (no problem) brocolli (Sorry too tasty), red meat (he's having a laugh) or seafood (I was born and bought up on an island, sea food in in my blood)
Colchachine gave me a bad stomach, Allipurinol does the trick, apart from the odd flare up, and then Naproxen, washed down with a glass of dry white wine takes the edge off it.
I don't want the gout, but I don't want to give up living my life either |

I was diagnosed with it on holiday in Greece. I had 2 mosquito bites on my big toe and it swelled up and was bloody painful. But the doctor said, "your English, you drink a lot, it's gout and you need an injection". Despite my protestations that I don't drink a lot (although the oozo did go down well the night before) she was convinced it was gout. I thought she was going to inject my toe which almost brought tears to my eyes, but when I presented my foot she just laughed and told me to turn over! So after a jab in the butt and handing over €100 I was off. Pain was gone within 2 hours and never had a problem since. If anyone wants her number let me know. As a post script I obviously took lots of abuse from the people I was away with and a flick through the photos of the night before showed me on a table with a giant bottle of oozo in an embrace with a restaurant owner, maybe the doctor had a point after all!!! |

Managed to nip it in the bud and even managed a swim this morning - feeling pretty damn good today. Sunshine helps x
Thanks for all the messages yesterday x
Word of caution on super market cherry juice - don't be tempted to guzzle the fuckin stuff if yer like me and watching the weight. A 1 litre carton contains as many cals as 2 pints of lager!
Just eat ordinary cherries... |

You can often relive gout swelling by drinking enough water, ... If you're looking for natural remedies, aloe vera gel can be very helpful.
yep it's a little miracle that plant but it cannot be patented so no good really for the pharma business. |

Know exactly what you mean. Whenever we are at a health food shop and the products proclaim all these benefits, we just look at each other and go 'why not just eat the things that have these amazing qualities but in their natural state?' I think its called a balanced diet. It'll never catch on! |
