That time of the year again.

Gone up again. £130 more than last year.

Tried all the other sites and they are quoting about £50 more than my renewal.

Anyone else feel they are getting shafted by their insurance?

No wonder people drive uninsured.

Even if the renewal is the best price, still call them up and say you can get a better deal (a little white lie), chances are they’ll be able a shave a few more pounds off at least .. every penny counts!

I change to a different company every year, another years no claims but the insurance goes up, so hence moving you always save money

Well the last part is one of the reasons why.

Try different combinations of named driver's if you can. Sometimes takes a bit off.

Use topcashback etc...got £50 off mine last year

Tried all the cashback sites, still more expensive and there is no guarantee they will pay out as I found out a few years ago.

Just renewed mine... They tried to charge over £100 more.

Got mine through Money Supermarket at with someone else for the same price I paid last year.

I hate how they try and scam you so always change and don't accept their price match.

Mine came in at over £400. I called them up, we went through my cover and a few things had changed like the value of my car, drop in annual mileage kind of things, premium dropped to £270 with those adjustments.

I do this. Give them a call and ask them for their absolute best price if you pay today. It’s surprising how much they can knock off if you are willing to pay immediately.

Also, don’t wait until your renewal letter comes through. Try to sort it a month or more in advance. The closer you get to it running out, the more you pay.

I found out recently that insurance companies are looking at the amount of car claims that are in your area, this then forms their base lines for the insurance premiums they charge.

My renewal from my existing insurer had doubled, shopped around and used a cash back site, managed to get it to similar to last year

Martin Lewis recommends this too - his site also has a good comparator on it

They have always done that.

A friend of mine works in the insurance industry and apparently claims inflation is a big issue, for every £1 they take in car insurance premium they are paying out £1.15 in claims. As a business model that isn’t sustainable so premiums increase to offset it.

The price increase is related to the amount of fraud claims that has been in recent years

My renewal quote was over 200 quid more than the previous year. Even after shopping around and getting another provider giving me a quote of 100 quid more than last year, current provider would only knock 40 quid off the renewal price!

I also found out that a lot of company’s have withdrawn from the market and most the quotes on comparison sites ( even though they come up with different names ) are all through the same firm

This is a brilliant advice. However, remembering to start looking on time is always my problem. Having said that,I never stay with any insurer that charges more than the previous year if there was no claim made.

Mine went up 30 quid with the current insurer. Thought they were taking the pics until I tried all the comparison sites and realised it was still cheaper than everyone else. Why has it gone up so much?

2 tips compare the comparison sites. Prices from the same companies vary wildly & always haggle!

It's the same every year renewal quote higher than previous year. I always use the comparison sites and get a good deal.

If you have another that you use put that in the quote it will lower your premium and add an older driver also

And remember to check those ones too who are not on comparison sites. Brst time to get a quote is around 3 to 4 weeks before renewal I believe.

Yup ours went up massively despite no claims and both over 50.

Shopped around and best I could find was not alot cheaper.

Admittedly we go for the all singing and dancing policy, protected no claims, uninsured driver cover, breakdown cover.but it's worth it in my humble opinion to save the ball ache if they are needed.

Mine went down this year to my great surprise as everything else has gone up.

Only £7 but still……

Mine went up, in part, owing to a no fault claim. The other party admitted fault at the time of the accident to the police yet I still got penalised.

Checked mine not due till November. Its expensive enough.. Gawd knows what it might be when renewal rears its ugly head. Road tax should be enough for insurance. I pay to park tax.
