Just saw this young girl speaking on the news. She's the young Pakistani lassie who stood up to those Taliban thugs because she wants girls like her to get an education. Shot in the head for her bravery but she has bounced back and it is a complete inspiration just listening to her.

Hard to believe she's only 15 years old when you hear her speak.

She can never go back to her homeland as the same people who shot her will want to finish the job off to make an example of her. Extremists rarely change their beliefs.

Sadly I have to agree with this. It always needs one person to have the courage to speak out whatever the cost to themselves and eventually others will have the courage to follow suit but what had happened to her might stop others.... I doubt I would be as brave as she is

What a killjoy... Google is your friend granny. Some folk just can't help dragging an upbeat thread down.

"Which of these does she qualify for ?"

It sometimes seems the Academy chooses recipients to send out a message about tself rather than reward a worthy recipient.

A similar situation exists in the award of honorary degrees by universities.

totally agree...however this is when i think its fairly justifiable to question countries/regimes- pretty justifiable why we would also question those that live with their families in the westernized world who support those regimes..
