PTSD is an evil thing. Try and find something grounding. And talk through as much as you can with a person you trust.
And ignore the insensitivity, step back. |

Oh yeah.
Especially, when you can't take that shit anymore so you do what everyone says you are supposed to do and reach out.
And all of a sudden they are too busy. They'll be back next week though.
How have you been?
Thinks (in a nightmarish, horrorshow, inescapable hell repeatedly re-experiencing the sensations of the worst moments of my life.
To the point of mental, physical and emotional exhaustion, yet still not being able to sleep).
Says 'oh ya know ups and downs... How are you?'
Oh your dog has a cold that's terrible. Come in - tell me all about it, I'll put the kettle on. |

PTSD is horrid, as a someone who feels they have gone through the worst, i can honestky say i feel stronger for having been in the grips of the dark beast.
Take each moment as it comes, find your support network, it sounds stupidly hard and easy to say but talk about it. There are organisations out there that can help.
Stay strong OP it can only get better |

For those of us that know, we know we've lived through worse than a stupid comment.
Lets own our triggers and not let a fab forum trigger us all over again.

It's very individual, which can result in others not grasping it, unless they take the time to do so, especially for the people that they may be fortunate enough to have this shared from, with them.
Hope your day and weekend goes well OP. Lots here care for others, including you |

I feel your pain. Dick has suffered from PTSD for many years, the nightmares he gets are terrifying on the rare occasions he shares them with me. He finds counsellors absolutely bloody useless (his words). I can sometimes help him by massaging his scalp, but his usual coping method is to go to his mental safe space.
I'm sorry I have no advice to offer that would be of any help to your own personal situation, but best of luck to you.

I have seen quite a bit of this over the years. Counsellors struggle because they have not shared the experience, so are not talking from the same start point.
Even within the veterans community people with different service will have very different experiences. Secomd world war, Vietnam, Falklands, Gulf war 1, Iraq, Afghanistan vets will all be different and don't always find it easy to relate their experiences to others.
OP . Anything I can do to help? |

You're very fortunate to have people close by to turn to who have a shared experience of your particular situation. Dick is not so lucky, there is nobody in this country, except me to an extent, who can offer succour. There are even those who actively avoid helping. It makes me weep sometimes, but he's a strong man.

Driving home tonight, there was a piece on the radio about a veteran's cafe in Huddersfield called Tommy's lounge.
It operates as a veteran friendly safe space.
I thought it is a great idea.

That’s great
I’ve a friend that runs a similar type of thing local to me it’s a veterans Allotment. They built everything there from the sheds to the chairs they have brew breaks on. There’s always a couple up there and weekends there’s more
It’s banter, a place to talk and a place to be with like minded people.
He also runs a veterans breakfast club that meets once a month on a Saturday |

"Driving home tonight, there was a piece on the radio about a veteran's cafe in Huddersfield called Tommy's lounge.
It operates as a veteran friendly safe space.
I thought it is a great idea.
They have a scheme where people can donate a coffee.
He also runs a veterans breakfast club that meets once a month on a Saturday " We do take care of our own . |

"What a fucking bummer it is...
"
Had a pretty bad bout of it for a good 6-8 months after my motorbike accident in November 2018, very nearly topped myself and to this day I don’t know what stopped me.
Pretty much all gone now thankfully but please do reach out and drop me a message if you’re ever properly struggling or just need to hear a very boring message about what I went through and hopefully you can gain some hope through that.
Keep going though, it really does get easier |

Absolutely reach out! It really helps.. took me years to reach out, was quite suicidal for a while but others helped me and I'd like to think I've been of some use too |

Ptsd sufferer here too, would recommend that people look into EMDR therapy. Totally changed me. Went from not being able to think about my trauma without crying or dissociating to being able to talk about what happened relatively calmly.
Happy to talk more about my experiences if people are interested.
