Is it right that £1 million pounds a week is being paid to children not resident in this country? yet our disabled are being discriminated against.

I think this government wants to keep our money in this country for those who need it.

I agree whilst I feel sorry anyone in need I believe we should help to a degree but whilst and this has been confirned by a government minister that 250 thousand kids more will be in poverty as result of reforms they are diing so if thats the case how can cameron think its right to commit to this at expense of children in uk.

If you are on any benefits (other than as a single parent)you are very likely to be sent for an assessment to find your capability not your disability. If you are on DLA they will catch up with you in time so far you are lucky.

How do we know these children exist? when providing overseas aids in the past the receiving governments only buy arms and ammunition, rockets and warships.

There are places in the world where, were it not for Aid programmes provided by the UK taxpayer, would see children starving to death on a scale previously seen in countries like Ethiopia. Is that what we're advocating here? Are we so mean-spirited that we will stand by in the 21st century and watch children die because their mother's are malnourished and cannot feed them? That water is not available because we're lapping it up in relative luxury and don't care that a basic human need for fresh, clean water is being denied to some of the Earth's population but others waste it wilfully?

I wouldn't be to sleep at night if I knew thousands will die while I slept so that my govt can put an extra couple of quid in my pocket.

Didn't Ethiopia buy HMS Mermaid and turn it into a gin palace.

Our government should only spend tax payers money when it can be seen that the country in question is also helping out.

We are a soft touch and awaiting another influx to milk the over burdened system, yet more money allowed out of the country, why?

If you are so concerned about it, write to your MP and ask him why it is happening.

Or even better wait until he/she is appearing in a public place and ask them there, watch them get all flustered.

Much better to be doing something active about what you believe to be a problem, then to be whinging about it on a forum that has little to do with politics.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Some overseas aid has been diverted and misused, most isn't.

I argue for supporting the disadvantaged in this country but also around the world. Aid programmes have a multiplier effect when used well.

If you really think Britain is a soft touch I suggest you come and meet some genuine asylum seekers and see how they are living here. If you think the countries receiving aid are getting this unfairly I suggest you spend a week volunteering with one of the charities working with them. Then tell me that the aid is not needed.

Finally, just watch the Bill Gates lecture from last week on BBC iPlayer.

Once again, someone mistakenly assuming that all our problems were/are caused by welfare money going to foreigners.

You could immediately put a blanket ban on all immigration to this country and cease the overseas aid. And the money you save would be a tiny fraction of the interest payments on the billions we are borrowing every month. So it would go nowhere near your or anyone else's pockets.

Britain is a soft touch and will soon sink under the weight of those taking from the benefit system. Yes living where we do we had the asylum seekers first and if the conditions for them are as bad as people make out this surely indicates that Britain is not the promised land. We still have them here, designer track suits, mobile phones(top of the range) designer trainers, and baby equipment...top of the range, also the BMW.

Before the next recession kicks in and interest rates rise britain needs to sort britains mess out before sorting out the world.

You're mistaking immigrants for asylum seekers. An asylum seeker has no access to the benefit system until they are accepted into this country. So if they have all the mod cons then they have either worked for them, got them by having 50 kids for the benefit money, stole them or performed some other criminal act for them.

Rather like the native people with the same gear.

I answered you already. Mermaid was sold to the Malaysian govt and renamed KD Hang Tuah. She became the flagship of the Malaysian Navy and the private yatch of the Malaysian king.

and ignorant as to how much of the wealth in this country came from having exploited other countries.

That said, Government isn't ideal for distributing money for AID and development, but then the alternatives aren't flawless.

I'm happier to see money being used to help countries develop than I am to see it being used to kill people.

So what you actually object to is people who've never contributed, of which the vast number are white British, taking money for spawning kids and shirking work. While you, who has contributed is getting screwed?

Perhaps that should have been your original point rather than making it a right wing race issue.

Anyway, the point of the welfare system is for the majority to pay in so that the few can get support of some description. The problem becomes, like now, when the government is receiving less into the pot than it's paying out due to the population explosion and the economic collapse.

The correct problem needs to be identified rather than it being an opportunity for right wing propaganda.

I think its wrong that the goverment sends out money to help people in other countries when things like help our heroes is a charity

Maybe we should start looking after our own first

Lots of causes are charities. Help for Heroes provides a very welcome boost to the government pot but it doesn't provide everything. Just as Barnardo is a charity but the government pay for children in care. There are NHS hospitals that also have charitable objects. It really isn't an either or. More government money would not be available.

Where does politics come into it, there is nothing racist in believing that there are some who pay into something and when they need it the door is closed because goal posts are changed because of financial requirements elsewhere. When I started work in 1965 You had to contribute for previous years to get any help/benefits but to me it seems that to contribute makes you less entitled to any help. The conflicts/wars are over what about repatriation?

Many causes prefer to be charities rather than Government puppets.

We do look after our own first - have you not noticed the free education, health, welfare state - all that stuff not available in other countries?

The bigger issue in this country has been people increasingly failing to take responsibility for themselves - there's a massive sense of entitlement by many who give nothing.

quote "We do look after own first". Sadly the free education shows how badly that is managed by what comes out of schools which is not surprising how little time students spend there. Health, To be diagnosed with a gentic disorder then told you do not have it then later in life told you do not have it, then later in life you do have it. then seven years to diagnosed a condition that very simply was written on a COSHH data sheet "May produce an allergic reaction". Welfare state? sorry I am not entitled to hand outs.

Because these other countries do not have these facilities they have been coming here for years. Yes I do read papers, yes I do watch the news and governments need to sort out the in house fighting, if it happens here where do we go?

Is it right that our children worry about having the latest computer game and other children around the world worry if they are going to be able to eat each day.

Is it right that disabled people in other countries have to be capable no matter what or they can't survive? Let alone just show how capable they are for extra money they can get and help and aids.

Is it right that one human thinks they are more important and deserve to live more than another human?

Is it right that our greed in this country causes so many of the problems round the world?

So why not get yourself over to somewhere like Uganda and take a look at what life offers there - particularly the disabled who you're likely to find begging in the streets because they really don't get handouts.

You'll also get to appreciate the impact that can be had on a country that has had it's aid frozen.

We have great schools - really good teachers and brilliant kids coming out of them. Great nurses and a society where you don't need to be genuinely fearful that you may be left in the street to die. We also have a minority of crap ones - but maybe you prefer to focus on those?

You might consider how fortunate we are to be born into a country where we can hope to live to an old age, not have to watch our children die from avoidable disease or famine or be kidnapped to kill other children. How fortunate we are to be able to offer help to those that do.

Or you can just moan.

I would agree with that - benefits should only be paid to those who live in this country.

My mother has Mental Health issues and sister suffers from Bells Palsy.

Life isn't always easy but it's paradise compared to those overseas who are not as fortunate as we are living in this country.

The government waste money every year without fail. So do profitable businesses.

How about calling for the City of London to contribute to charitable causes instead of wasting their affluent wealth on cocaine and champagne every weekend.

But one of the major reasons why Britain has immense wealth is due to the exploitation of natural the resources of "foreign nations".

So yeah, giving children overseas a chance to live a life we take for granted is fine by me.

If you don't like what the government are doing, make a complaint and do your very best not to get them re elected next time the general election comes around.

According to a study undertaken by University College London a couple of years ago. Immigrants contribute 1.6 billion pounds more in tax revenue than they take in benefits.

Seems to me like we should be shipping out the native population who claim significantly more than they contribute.

People working instead of whining might just help the country fix the absurd deficit brought about by an expectation of the native Brit that they are deserving of a lifestyle that the country can no longer afford to pay.

Yes so I can't see a great deal wrong with that either, the vast majority of poles who I have encountered have been hard workers to the nth degree!

Now weare about to kick off with the disability allowances, thatsthething that scares me, many of the people that need it will lose it it and the ones who don't wont

I'm Bipolar myself and manage to work full time in quite a decent job but, being within aental health trust, I can see people being hung out to dry because of cost.

The ones who need help won't get it because they can't shout, the ones who don't will live on easy street because they know how to play the system.

It is for this very reason that benefits cost so much to administer. Only the truly needy should receive benefits, everyone else should have tax allowances so that the money is not taken out in the first place.

For example, better to have 100 pounds not taken off you than allow that same 100 pounds to be taken off you and lose up to 50% of its value through collection, administration and simple inefficiencies.

The number of charities with that high a rate of non-charitable spend is really quite small. Charities have to pay rent, heat, light, telephone bills etc. and a fair number pay wages. The GVA for charities is higher than agriculture in this country. They are businesses. The ones that tell you 100% of your donation goes directly to the cause are the ones to really examine. Those other costs have to be paid in some way.
