Argh.....Parking Ticket (3 minutes over time)
Jump to: Newest in thread
I thought it was normal to allow 5 mins as discretionary time, but that's anywhere but london. It's worth contesting. 50% of tickets issued if contested are voided through bad practice with wardens, then another 50% contested further, so only 25% of tickets ever are valid. |

Wold it not depend on the terms and conditions of the car park.
Of they give grace time doesn't it defeat the object of time limits?
Its unlucky you got caught. Chances are many wouldn't be. |

It's a bit of a pisser, but how much leeway should be given ?
10 minutes ? then what happens to the bloke who was only there for 11 minutes ?
So for good measure say 15 minutes leeway, then someone parks and they've been there for 16 minutes ?
Simple solution to avoid confusion - If you're over the time, you pay the fine |

"A friend of mine appeals every parking ticket she's given and has been let off about 80% of them. I think being only 3 mins over time you have a good case."
She's obviously good I've had 3 in the last month and failed to appeal all 3 although the first one I'm digging my heels in and completely refusing to pay it!! |

It could be said that not everyones watch shows the same time, so they should give some leeway within reason.
Appeal it cos even if u loose the appeal u still get the 2 weeks to pay the cheaper fine if it has that option.. And u never know unless u try |

They are supposed to allow a grace period because not everones watch is set to the exact time and people can be stuck in ques etc. |

If its a ticket from a private company just bin it and ignore it.
You'll get threatening letters but eventually they'll get off your case and move onto their next victim.
Twice I've had a ticket from such companies and I've binned them. |

I would agree on a free parking bay. If you have taken a ticket from a machine its down to you to check the time on the ticket and check your watch or phone. |

People get held up all the time, not always their fault or avoidable. 5 minutes is fair. |

"a lot use Ringo and you can phone and extend time.... I do it all the time and it is great"
likewise. And you normally get a text to remind you about parking expiry. |

It's a council ticket, therefore, can't ignore it.
Will definitely appeal. Our third ticket in last 5 years. Appealed previous two and won both time. One at council stage and other one at tribunal.
Grace period is arbitrary but council override this. |

it is great, costs a wee bit more but you don't have to worry about finding change for the machine |

Just info that maybe of interest although I do not condone not paying but the company responsible for colkection will eventually write it off despite letters to contrary and debtless than £250 is not cost effective to take matter to court. |

I would try and appeal. I added TRY as councils rarely back down. I got one a year or so agao for being 5 mins over and i explained i parked there evry saturday paid for 2 hours but normally only there 1.5 hours and all they said was thank you here's where to send the money |

As the coffin was being lowered into the ground at a Traffic Wardens funeral, a voice from inside sreams
"I'm not dead, I'm not dead.
Let me out!"
The vicar smiles, leans forward sucking air through his teeth and mutters "Too fucking late pal,
the paperworks already done"

Mine too but what pisses me off the most is that it's the local council that hands out the tickets which is the same council that I work for that tell me I am an essential car user and have to have my car to do my job then when I get stuck in their offices dealing with their problems the bastards sting me with a parking ticket |
