Movie cuts....

So as a huge movie buff and following on from the Django thread where a few mentioned it being too long etc ??

For me personally i have found very few films too long, I enjoy seeing the film exactly how the Director / Producer want us to see it.

Even if it makes the film too long in some peoples eyes it is representative of the directors vision and i personally would prefer to see that.

Some films have been much much better having watched the directors cut for example Aliens was so much better with the extra scenes !!!

Admittedly this is my opinion but what do others think and do you think a 2 and 3/4 film is too long ??

Discuss lol ?

It depends how quickly the film unfolds. I love Dances with Wolves, and thats over 4 hours.

Saw the Hobbit recently and should have been an hour shorter

Yeh there are some films that are too long i agree but i do think they are in a small minority.

I saw Cloud Atlas and that was a long film but the inter twining stories kept me hooked and was magnificently well put together !!!

James Cameron is guilty of it. Titanic and Avatar waaaay too long. Recent Riddle Scott films the same, Robin Hood could have been an hour shorter easily

Yeh agreed however i do think its important to see the movie how the director intends it to be seen, seems the movie industry has gone from one extreme to the other....

Films used to be cut , shortened and modified for the cinema audience, but now they seem to be getting longer lol !!

The theatrical cut of Kingdom of Heaven was a pile of crap, whereas the Director's Cut was a beautiful epic (Christ, even Orlando Bloom was tolerable in it !)

The problem usually occurs where studios have insisted on theatrical cuts, then they've ended up too long and the stories don't flow due to the cuts...if that makes sense !

Yeh agreed, some of the directors cuts i have seen have enhanced and sometimes made the film 10 times better !!!

It depends on the film.

I would not cut the likes of Gone With The Wind (238min) and Ben-Hur (212min) for a second.

I love the "directors cut" on most movies coz 9times out of 10 the movie company cut it for the 90/110 minuet mark to get sum blockbuster... but the director does his thing on the Bluray
