Is it too late to change my Dead Pool entry as it doesn't look like Gazza's gonna see the year out. He's back on the booze and collapsed at a charity event this week. His agent says his life is in danger if he doesn't get help.
Great talent, wasted life. |

He will go down the route of Mr G Best... Alcoholism is a very sad diease... I remember when I was working in a hostel in central London and it was for alcoholics and what not.. there was this guy that was constantly d*unk.. I never saw him sober.. He had problems with his feet they used to swell as his body could not flush out the toxins so his feet were massive... Anyway we had to go to a hospital appointment and he could not have anything to drink.. Anyway he went to the appointment sober and it was a wonderful couple of hours he was telling me about his life and how he ended up becoming an alcoholic... This guy was vile when he had a drink and attacked me with a plank of wood.. It was just nice to speak to him without fear etc as he was a big teddy bear when sober.... |

what a shame, all the best to him.
sadly, we glory in drinking a lot of the times and wear being pissed like some badge of honour.. some get out of it, others don't and it takes them down.

He was right all along about Saville though, just came to his conclusion via a rather obtuse route !! |

footballing genius... Surely two words that should never be together... Its a fucking game!. Genius and legend, two words that get used far to often these days... Only one thing i despise more than football... The fans!...
Gazza... What a tit... Hope he remembers to take his fishing rod and a KFC when he meets up with his old pal Raoul Moat |

Somebody in a bad mood?
I do believe that legend and genius are over used, but the poster said he was a footballing genius. Look uo the definition of genius and it says 'Exceptional intellectual or creative power or other natural ability.'. Gazzas natural ability cannot be denied.
Hopefully you will reread your post and see it a bit over the top and borderline repugnant |

"Alcoholism is a terrible disease. I watched my mum die of it, you can't help them if they don't went help"
I used to know someone who had an extremely good job at the Scottish Office (this was about 20 years ago) and had been tipped to get the top job there (for a Civil Servant). The problem was he was an alcoholic - there was a apparently a problem with a drinking culture in the Civil Service at the time and he saw nothing wrong with one or two bottles of wine with his lunch every day. It eventually cost him his marriage, his house and car and ultimately his job, last I heard he was unemployed and in a council bedsit but still drinking to excess. |

Gazza was incredibly talented and his volley in Euro 96 was simply sublime !!!
However you reap what you sow, he really needs help but unfortunately i feel he will end up in an early grave |

My mum was fantastic when I was a young kid. There is a history of the disease in my family and it hit her when I was an early teen. We had not spoken for a long time after a family feud and the last time I saw her was at my nan's funeral. I did not recognise her as she looked do old. She died last year aged 59. Terrible waste of a life, especially as she was so smart and beautiful. |

I worked with a guy once and we went round to his aunties house for a cuppa.
On the wall was around 8 framed england shirts, all folded neatly bar one, the one in the middle was all signed and it was the shirt Gazza cried in in that famous match.
The womans house we where in was Jimmy five bellies mothers house, yep she had all his shirts.
I was in gobsmacked |

The problem he faces is if he tries to go it alone and stop drinking completely straight away. It will kill him as it did to my cousin last year and as it did to Amy Winehouse. The body cannot cope with such a shock to the system. He needs to be monitored closely as he comes off it. |

"all the best to him and I hope the clinic in the USA helps him beat his battles x
and well done to his mates for helping"
Apparently Chris Evans, Gary Lineker and Piers Morgan stumped up the cash for him to go.
I hope it works out for him.
The amount of help he has received over the years and still he finds himself in a mess again. He seems to need 24 hours help just to stay alive. |

As the proprieter of a pub next to the spurs pub we had raised 1600 pounds for the purchace of a blind dog we asked a well known spurs player and notorious twat with big ears to come over and sign a few autographs and hand over the cheque..his agent declared that the said twat wanted 600 pounds...fuck off came our reponse..gazza was approached and spent hours signing and being thouroughly pleasant and wrote a cheque for another dog....public perceptions of whos a nice guy are often skewed |

The Italia 90 documentary showed where it all started, he said on the plane home he realised that life was never going to be as good again. Depression set in which led to him seeking solace in alcohol and a dark downward spiral ensued. It is often the depression which is the cause with the alcohol being a symptom and needs treating first. I've seen it in my family and it is sad to see how low people can get. Whoever they are, whatever their status, they need our help and understanding. I wish him well. |

He certainly will get the help needed in Rehab,,surounded by experienced experts on the problem,,daily feeling better.
The real testing time is the, walking out the place, alone, leaft to figure out how to not drink again. |

Sometimes the attention given to high profile cases raises awareness to particular problem in society and ultimately result in better help for others in a similar situation ….

He collasped after doing the first stage bit where they medically detox you... Its a very gruelling thing to go through and those that have years and years of acoholism usually find it the worse... Your vital organs can shut down as its not used to do having any alcohol in the system and I think that is what happened to Gazza. Through years of drink his vital organs could not cope so they began to shut down..
People can die from not having alcohol or just coming off it completely without medical assistnace. You can have fits etc.. its terrifying to watch. |

Never been the biggest Gazza fan! but its sad to see an illness like alcholism slowly destroy a life. I do think he was a talented footballer and possibly one of his insecureties is that he has let people down ! Hope he can get dry. |

Too many people judge alcholism i have lived with it my whole life and it is an illness. people don't choose to go down that route and they certainly don't choose to destroy the lives of people around them, Its a disease and unless you have a very strong will and don't have an addictive personality then its a battle your really unlikely to win. Good luck Gazza |

Pleaded guilty to one charge of assault...the railway guard at Stevenage...and to being d*unk and disorderly.
The charge of assault on his ex-wife was withdrawn.
£1,000 fine but avoids prison once again. Wonder if a short prison term may have had an effect on his behaviour. Sadly, I don't think this will be his last court appearance. |

Watched a good friend go through the same and and up in prison. Visited him there and it was great to see the old sober friend. Despite all the encouragement and help i could offer his first stop after release was to the off licence. Sadly not long after i lost a good friend. RIP |

Sorry but I don't think Gazza is a of a strong enough character to be able to deal with life behind Bars, just in front of them, so sending him to prison would not help him at all and if drink is not available would he not just turn to drugs while he was inside |
