Peace and quiet...

It's a rather gentle day on the forums isn't it? I'm not complaining at all.

Do you find peace and quiet often? Are you the sort that has to say something during the quiet or are you happy to enjoy it? Where do you find your peace?

I'm happy to enjoy it. I usually don't have much to say - I'm quite happy in my own mind*.

I think it's nice when it's not toxic, no arguments etc. It's refreshing!

I never get peace and quiet, the voices in my head just won't shut up.

I do not come to the forums for peace and quiet.

I do not like the forums when they are very quiet.

I guess I would if I just wanted to read but I value the contributions of others and the interaction that can be had with them.

I'm very busy every day and that's the way I like life to be. I have plenty of quiet time when that is what I want but I come to the forums when I want a sit down and a break and something different from my usual reads.

Did I say I don't like quiet forums ?

I love peace. I once met someone who gave up speaking altogether. She was so at peace and communicated through facial gestures and the odd post it note. I also know a couple of misanthropes, who speak much less than most people.

I find people in people like that , it’s just easy, uncomplicated being.

When you do speak it is valuable. I am also very happy in my own mind.

where do I find peace? My brain goes somewhere after 40 miles on the bike, when the sweat is running off me and I've gone through the pain barrier a few times. It's possible to be hyper alert to everything and simultaneously get that meditation high.

Varying points of view are what keeps us thinking and progressing.

Toxicity is never welcome. There seem to be so many who think that stooping to insult constitutes a battle won.

I can't sit in silence with somone, no idea but makes me feel uncomfortable.

I love working on my own in silence or sitting in the countryside in silence. It's good for the soul.

The shouty pouty threads remind me of swing parks and nurseries or chucking out times.... or sales..... social media... football crowds.. sports days ... supermarket queues....

Hmmmm pattern emerging here

I like what you've said about the gym, that's relatable. I like people who I can sit in comfortable silence as well with, like a sort of peace. Just enjoying that moment without saying much.

I find peace and quiet a lot. Typically in the woods with the dog or on the sofa… also with the dog Both are welcome.

Sometimes Roger and I just chill and say nothing. I love silence to a point, as long as it’s comfortable and that tends to depend on the company.

?

I need regular periods of peace and quiet or I get really grumpy. I like being around (some) people to a certain extent, but people can be so..draining.

The ultimate peace for me is being out in nature...no human sounds apart from the trudge of my hiking boots, listening to the birds twitter, the wind rustle through the trees and grass, and the occasional scurry of an animal that I've disturbed as I pass by their home. Bliss

I can usually find peace and quiet when I need it. Usually when walking the dog.

Not quiet, but watching the world go by over a coffee is also peaceful to me too.

I very much enjoy my solitude and find much solace when immersing myself in my "me time".

I'm doing this right now but it will soon be punctuated by a quick shower and then out and about to run a few errands, before having some "me time" again on a leather Chesterfield at my local Caffé Nero™ on the High Road.

Maybe you'll find that peace in another one day? I know, you're probably vomiting up iced coffee at that suggestion.

I live alone, my friends live far enough away for it to be a pain and I only do about 10 hours a week in the office, so... I'm used to it and enjoy it. I can go days without saying a word.

Ha! Just once or twice. I do understand where you're coming from - I wouldn't start threads if I didn't enjoy/appreciate (not sure that's the right word but hey ho) if I didn't want interactions from others.

I enjoy seeing minds bounce off each other, those threads that make me think. I'm less keen on the contentious.

Very quiet is perhaps not for me, fora wise. I can't bring myself to start a thread on sex or politics though.:D

I'm not sure I'd describe misanthropes as easy, uncomplicated beings HotNotts. I'd possibly argue the opposite truth be told. But... it's not fitting with the zeitgeist so I shan't. :D

I think when people are at peace with themselves it's a beautiful thing and so lovely to be around.

Oh this is interesting! Yes! Love this. I was talking earlier to a friend about how my mind is still after a particular activity. Perhaps not still, more at rest. I love that sensation and it's one I possibly chase. That meditative high doesn't have to be found in silence and doing nothing.

because if I stop, I start to think and that's not good for me.

I’ve alway found that by accepting what you can't change or control. You can't actually control your mind and simply tell it, “Be more peaceful” — just as you can't control life. ...
