"Latest figures suggest we're going to lose the planet sooner than later ? 1.5degrees was the target but the boffins say we won't kept it down to 2 ? " Load of shit. Google where the term "Daylight robbery" comes from. Global warming is their excuse to finally.tax us on the weather.

"It’s quite big, not like you can lose it down the back of the sofa or anything " Lol. The planet will be just fine spiralling through space chasing the Sun at 30 Km/second for millenia. It will simply be hostile to humans and we will all die out. This summer heat in Europe and the more violent weather is just the start.

"Global warming is a natural process, the Earth has always had periods of warmer and colder weather (Ice Ages anyone?). I'm not a climate-change denier, we do have to try to cut our emissions and recycle much more, but the hysteria over climate change is ridiculous. 7000 years ago, the global average temperature was 4 degrees higher....guess what, we all survived." How do we know what the precise average temp was 7000 years ago? Where are the records..? How accurate were the thermometers?

Google where the term "Daylight robbery" comes from. Global warming is their excuse to finally.tax us on the weather. " Without sounding like a know it all, daylight robbery actually stems from the Tudor period where you paid tax on the amount of windows you had on your property, so , to cut the taxes, people boarded up windows and the term "daylight robbery" was used as the more light you had in your property, the more tax you paid!. I totally agree with you though, any excuse to extorte money from us for example... wind farms.... we were told" if you pay extra in your energy bills to help fund the green revolution, we can supply cheaper energy and help the environment!"... guess what.. loads of wind farms everywhere and we're STILL PAYING MORE AND MORE AND MORE for energy... what a load of old pony!. Peace and love everyone.

Not really hysteria though is it. The point of climate change is that this natural process is being sped up and the extremes in the weather are being seen much more often and much more frequently, from extreme heat to extreme cold, record rainful etc.

Depends on your take I guess. If you don't want to believe it then I guess you dismiss it as hysteria and if you do you are interested in reading about it. It's been huge business for a good time now. Carbon credit trading has existed for years and is worth billions. Tax on flights and such like has existed for years. Were they in settlements or were they nomads and moved around to places where it was more hospitable? Humanity may have survived but how many died at that time?

Because i think there's a colossal amount of misinformation out thete and usually because people put making money above any evidence. "Doesn't feel like global warming today out there......yucky weather" That's because the correct term is climate change. The heating of the planet is increasing the humidity of the air around the UK, which means more rain. The very hot weather in southern Europe (which I personally experienced recently) is resulting in wetter weather in northern Europe.

I'm 37 and can see significant differences in the climate here in the UK and southern Europe, compared to when I was a child. I spent almost every summer in Spain and not once did temperatures go anywhere near the 46°C I experienced in Granada last week. 35°C was a very hot day during our summer holidays but it was still above 30°C at 00:30 during my recent visit.

So I’ve been alive for 50 years and have noticed no significant change in climate in both the uk or Southern Europe where I spend a fair bit of time. That is my lived experience. Should I start to live in fear because others think I should? Oh come on. " I disagree. We aren’t going to agree. I refuse to choose fear.

"Doesn't feel like global warming today out there......yucky weather That's because the correct term is climate change. The heating of the planet is increasing the humidity of the air around the UK, which means more rain. The very hot weather in southern Europe (which I personally experienced recently) is resulting in wetter weather in northern Europe. This kind of goes a long way to show most people still don't fully understand it, and just think it's all about things getting warmer. With zero clue about actual science that makes it all work. I'm continuously surprised by the number of people (on Fab and elsewhere) who don't want to understand the science, mainly because, you know, it's a bit cold today." I'm not in the slightest bit surprised. Covid revealed the widespread incompetence. The intelligent people won't be able to educate the others and the planet will die. We should enjoy it while we still can.

"Lol at swingers being science experts. " Swingers can't have gone to school and received qualifications in scientific fields? Because some of them actually have. Or is swinging only for those that couldn't or failed to gain any educational knowledge. I'm pretty sure the swinging world is filled with both ends of that spectrum.

But I think we should recognise the global impact (and the most severe impact of climate change will be in the developing world). It's quite likely that your - and my - individual lived experience doesn't have the same weight as all the other empirical evidence gathered around the world on which the assessments/projections are based. My point was more about expertise: I'm not an expert, so I will try to listen to those that are, and not just dismiss them because we had a hot summer in 1976.

Simply sharing MY lived experience, which seems to correlate with the lived experience of all the Spaniards I spoke to last week. I'm not sure how you can disagree that 20 years ago, it simply didn't get to 46°C for prolonged periods (or at all), whereas this is now common, in that part of the world. This is evidenced by actual measurements. For one example, the peak temperature in Granada this week, compared to the same week in 2010 is about +7°C different.

"Global warming is a natural process, the Earth has always had periods of warmer and colder weather (Ice Ages anyone?). I'm not a climate-change denier, we do have to try to cut our emissions and recycle much more, but the hysteria over climate change is ridiculous. 7000 years ago, the global average temperature was 4 degrees higher....guess what, we all survived. Not really hysteria though is it. The point of climate change is that this natural process is being sped up and the extremes in the weather are being seen much more often and much more frequently, from extreme heat to extreme cold, record rainful etc. Sped up? Really? And yes hysteria... Have you not seen the media this summer? That is the entire point of climate change is it not? No one is denying it happens naturally, the point is the man made effect that we have on changing that process by changing the atmospheric make up of the earth which in turn changes the effect of the suns energy. Depends on what you call hysteria I guess. I don't see protesting as hysteria, it's a democratic right of any civilised nation. And people havr the delusion we can somehow by turning our thermostat down effect it? As for media.. Take a loom at the bbc front page and headline image and story.... Today... And yesterday... And the day before... Unfortunately its been monetised now... Means money to be made from selling the emperor's new clothes... Add a climate tax to everything we toucb buy eat drink move... Tell people often enough and it becomes true Well yes, because those gasses released have been man made as a result of industrial processes, vehicles and travel, farming etc. So while you might not change what has already happened, you can try and not make things worse. Depends on your take I guess. If you don't want to believe it then I guess you dismiss it as hysteria and if you do you are interested in reading about it. It's been huge business for a good time now. Carbon credit trading has existed for years and is worth billions. Tax on flights and such like has existed for years. People can and will monitise everything, does that take away from a legitimacy of anything? This site is paid for, doesn't mean swinging isn't legitimate anymore? So... Not wanting to pick an argument but... What are you doing to reduce.. The global temperature.. And what evidence do you have that it will actually work.? Because i think there's a colossal amount of misinformation out thete and usually because people put making money above any evidence. I get the whole thing about being more responsible about our environment but that just makes sense. Not because its going to effect a global temperature. But good to discuss the environmental aspects" I do as much as I can within reason. I try to reduce plastic waste where I can, so get washing pods and things only in cardboard packaging, refillable drinks bottles, refillable cleaning poducts and bathroom products. I am fortunate that I can walk to work if I have to go into the office or can work from home most of the time. I enjoy shopping in 2nd hand places for certain items, old furniture especially but obviously not all items. But at the same time I am as guilty as anyone, I have taken 16 flights in the last 2/3 years. So not innocent by any means. But without me those flights would still take place. At least that is how my guilty mind justifies that. Could I do better? Yes I can. Individually I am with you, not much we can really do which is why pressure groups are focusing on governments. Only they can make any real changes to anything. No point one extra person taking the bus if the local paint manufacturer is spilling out all sorts of fumes and chemicals into the atmosphere. I think the point of any action isn't that it is going to reverse any process, the damage is done. Much like those crusty people you see who spent the last 40 years on holiday with cooking oil all over them. We can't fix it but you can slow the damage down or stop further damage from occuring. Whether you believe such things exist or not is entirely up to you though of course. As for evidence that is what books and scientific journals are for. I am guessing it is a logical thought process that if you reduce emissions and pollution then you are not adding to the problem and increase the greenhouse effect.

"What i also find weird in this is how readily and gleefully some folk are to believe the "science" of catastrophe. Based on what? Less than 100 years of recorded observations? Which represents a ridiculously tiny spec of the duration of the life of our planet. Its like observing clinical data from a human for less than a 1000th of a second and predicting what is going to happen in our lives. And more still. Even assuming that the science all agree and is accurate and predictions are always true... The belief that we can remove or even do less of industry, fossil fuel, the "stuff" economy is deluded. Progress.... Electric cars is a great example of emperors new clothes. " But you don't need to believe scientists etc. Have you seen your local landfill site? Do we need so much new stuff? Do we need a new phone every year or so? Do we need raspberries flown in from the continent? Do you want live next to a coal or nucelar power plant on your doorstep? With an increasing population we have to be realistic with resources used and waste we produce. If we can reduce use and recycle more how is that a bad thing?

They have all said there is a problem but no one is dramatising anything. It's almost like large complex issue like this or politics has a huge spectrum of places you can sit on the subject. It doesn't have to be just denial or disaster, or left or right.

There's a SHORTAGE of tomatoes etc because of the excess heat and lack of water to irrigate! The difference in this period is the extent of the height of the temperature and the persistent lack of precipitation across southern Europe. To be fair, you didn't specify which countries the "not 45" temperatures had been "exaggerated" in. Clearly not parts of Spain. You said 42 in France was inaccurate (though based on what I don't know).

The correct term is Weather. Its hot in Southern Europe because it's closer to the heat being drawn up from North Africa (a natural occurrence) and because it's Summer." And the position of the jet stream, because its shifted position that's why its raining now instead of the hot weather we had a month or so ago. Also there were types of dinasoaur, not the entire species, types...that lived for billions of years, and the industrial age blamed for all the climate problems has been in progress for just hundreds of years?

But you don't need to believe scientists etc. " Absolutely agree. We 100% should be mindful of all the "stuff" we are being told we need. Agree. Completely different matter to global climate change though. Buy local and not from china woukd be a good place to start.

How do we know what the precise average temp was 7000 years ago? Where are the records..? How accurate were the thermometers? The population of Great Britain 7000 years ago is estimated to be between 1,000 and 2,000 humans. They were mostly hunter gatherers but had started agriculture. Today the population is 67,736,802. I am not an expert but I suspect we may have more difficulty surviving today than they did back then. Its not the temperature alone that kills it is the lack of food and violent weather. Fucking hell only 1-2k? I bet it was slim pickings on fab back then " No fab, just sheep

"We can't stop what the planet does naturally, it's a living entity and goes through cycles. Personally I don't think we do enough to look after this planet, we sort of take it for granted in the most part. We should take more responsible actions about what we put into the atmosphere, but in a measured way. The earth will change with or without us, a little more respect about our environment is all we need. " I totally agree with this. I have no idea if we are unnaturally speeding the process up. I do think there is hysteria though. I remember all the fear tactics in the 80's over CFC's, acid rain. Nuclear war etc. Less hysteria and more responsible caring for our environment and resources. Maybe it's better that humans can't survive easily in future? Maybe it was good for the planet the dinosaurs died out? Who knows!

I'm continuously surprised by the number of people (on Fab and elsewhere) who don't want to understand the science, mainly because, you know, it's a bit cold today. Yes, wet British summers are a very recent phenomenon, and sunny warm south European climates are almost unheard of until recent times of climate change. Excellent way to prove my point. I wasn't suggesting in any way that weather was new, but you know that. The Met Office have some great info on this if you're interested. So I’ve been alive for 50 years and have noticed no significant change in climate in both the uk or Southern Europe where I spend a fair bit of time. That is my lived experience. Should I start to live in fear because others think I should? " Eyes wide shut. A heatwave used to be a rare occurrence when I was young. It was an anomaly that didn't occur every year. Now we have multiple heatwaves every year and last year wild fires. Winters are colder. Seasons are wetter, however the numerous floods may be more down to building on flood plains.

"46°C is now profile pic, taken in Granada, Spain on Sunday 9 July at 17:34 Spanish time It was/is that hot. Was it 46 in France the country I referred to? France is not exactly Southern Europe, is it? Northern Spain is not experiencing the same level of heatwave. I didn't say it was although last time I checked there is a south of France, which is generally referred to as Southern Europe" But the south of France is not as far south as the south of Spain. The current heatwave is not impacting France, it is impacting further south - Southern Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia, North Africa etc.

Oh come on. I disagree. We aren’t going to agree. I refuse to choose fear. Who says I'm fearful? Simply sharing MY lived experience, which seems to correlate with the lived experience of all the Spaniards I spoke to last week. I'm not sure how you can disagree that 20 years ago, it simply didn't get to 46°C for prolonged periods (or at all), whereas this is now common, in that part of the world. This is evidenced by actual measurements. For one example, the peak temperature in Granada this week, compared to the same week in 2010 is about +7°C different." I’m while I was in Spain in 1994, temperatures exceeded 45 degrees. They have done many times in the years that I have been spending time there, on all seasons, not just holidays. That is my lived experience. You won’t gaslight me into thinking that this was not the case.

Oh come on. For one example, the peak temperature in Granada this week, compared to the same week in 2010 is about +7°C different. I’m while I was in Spain in 1994, temperatures exceeded 45 degrees. They have done many times in the years that I have been spending time there, on all seasons, not just holidays. That is my lived experience. You won’t gaslight me into thinking that this was not the case. I'm not using gaslight, too many carbon emissions " L E D ing doesent have the same effect..

Obviously we haven't managed to pollute all of space yet, but we've made a good start on our own backyard. There's now so many bits of old satellites and miscellaneous junk that has been chucked out of spacecraft in low earth orbits, whizzing around at thousands of miles an hour, that we've very nearly locked ourselves out of space. Riding a rocket into space is starting to get like trying to cross the M50 on a kids tricycle - even if you look both ways and check that it's momentarily clear, your chances of getting to the other side in one piece are limited. It's like flying a hot air balloon in the flight path of Heathrow. And when these bits of junk hit each other they break up into smaller bits of junk and make space even more hazardous. Little is worse in fact than big - if there were just a couple of hundred big lumps out there you could have a chance of seeing them coming and get out of the way. But when it's hundreds of millions of bits the size of gravel... You know what it's like when a bit of stone hits your windscreen when driving on the motorway? Loud bang and a crater in the glass? That's something that you hit at maybe 70 miles an hour. Climbing through near earth space you might get hit by a bit of junk moving at 1000 miles per hour... So yay humanity! "Global warming is a natural process, the Earth has always had periods of warmer and colder weather (Ice Ages anyone?). I'm not a climate-change denier, we do have to try to cut our emissions and recycle much more, but the hysteria over climate change is ridiculous. 7000 years ago, the global average temperature was 4 degrees higher....guess what, we all survived."

For comparison, 2 million is fewer than the total population of Greater Manchester and 20 million is around the entire population of Romania. If the global population was so small now, it'd much easier to feed and house everyone!

Not content with stinking up our own planet, we're trashing the neighbourhood so much that we won't even be able to fuck off to anywhere else... You mean around our grain of sand." We are planning to fuck up a fair bit of space between here and Mars. Anyway, just because it’s a minuscule bit of our galaxy, doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter…

"I think I've said this before, but if you just assume "Polly is right, she knows what she's talking about", then we'd all save a lot of time. So... We're all fucked. Fucked is what we are. Don’t forget we’ve already started fucking space too…. Space ? Our planet is not even a grain of sand in space. There is an awful lot of space. In fact 4 billions years worth of it is as far as we have look back so far. Approximately 13.5 billion years actually.
