A weather girl is claiming that Phoenix which is actually in the US State of Arizona, is uninhabitable without air con.

Which if any European city will get this honour next. Does air con increase global warming

It's all over the news

My bet would be Seville an surrounding areas...

Athens can be quite uncomfortable in summer.

AirCon uses lots of energy...

I remember getting off a plane in Phoenix and having to walk across the tarmac 20+ years ago. It was like stepping into a blast furnace.

I know that it has only gotten worse since then. It gets crazy hot and then freezing overnight.

Also water usage in the SW US is REALLY poor which doesn't help (people setting up artificial surf resorts, golf courses and farmers being paid to use water intensive crops...)

France is already seeing Summers regularly hitting 38 degrees plus and people are dying.

Does AC make global warming worse. Kind of. Currently yes, because of the big energy demand.

So the more we switch to renewable & carbon neutral energy will help.

Changes in how and where we build and work will also help. (eg Places shutting during the early afternoon and working more in the evening, or after sundown)

Apparently the Somerset Gimp has been released and given a one way ticket to Phoenix

I loved Phoenix when I was there. I could live there, air con or not.

I’ll even build an open fire in my living room.

Icarus flew to close to the sun and fell.

Phoenix is the Firebird. Dies in flames and rises from the ashes.

The Phoenix is borrowed from Greek mythology and is associated with the sun as well as the bird that is reborn in fire. Its one of several names borrowed from ancient mythology that you find across the US. Memphis and Athens being the other I can think off straight away but there's more

Arizona is near the grand canyon.

Perhaps that's it. Is a Phonix like a gateway to the Grand Canyon

The elephant in the room is the fact that certain areas around the world are ‘uninhabitable’ at certain parts of the year, there is archeological evidence of this happening all the way back to the Stone Age but alas this time there is enough evidence to suggest we have contributed to the extremes, the problem now is mass migration is difficult because of the size of the mass, too many people have a not in my backyard mentality but we are heading for a know uncertain future, however remember back in the 90’s and they said acid rain will destroy all crops and it’s the apocalypse, it’s smoke and mirrors, what’s really going off is the powers that be are clueless and don’t give a fuck, wheeling out some angry teenager to bang on about not using a petrol car to go to work in is nothing short of media spin and should be disregarded, the fact remains the scientific community who have collected the data cannot speak because to do so would ruin them financially or destroy the career they have worked so hard for, best case scenario is we don’t see the asteroid coming ….

No. That was Icarus and he was a bloke, not a bird.

Central

Aircon emits heat, whilst it cools, so is adding to the heat problem overall, even if powered by renewables.

Athens and possibly Madrid are amongst many cities that will become tougher to live in. We're very poorly adapted to the new normal as well as the most frequent extremes
