Stress!!

The older I get, the more variations there are in how my body handles stress. In the last couple of years it's caused 2 bouts of terrible skin irritation that needed steroids to stop & this time I've had a twitchy eyelid for the last 3 weeks

I was never physically affected by stress before, but nowadays, my system tells me I'm stressed before my brain can acknowledge it!!

Does anyone else get frustrating physical signs of stress?

Excuse the brevity, but yes: I succumbed to Alopecia though stress and anxiety. Quite frustrating really. I hope you are ok, OP.

Thank you so much, I'll be ok. A job isn't worth feeling rubbish for, but I'm not quite at that point just yet!! Alopecia must have been worrying- Did you quickly realise it was the stress that caused it?

Does insomnia count as physical?

Not eating, not sleeping, excess alcohol consumption and trichotillomania (when things are really bad).

Yes, it was definitely the stress, which affected my autoimmunity - which in essence started killing off my hair follicles.

Loss of appetite.

But does make it easier to get into jeans you previously couldn't.

I’ve had two savage bouts of anxiety in the last 20 years, stress needs to be taken seriously by your brain or your body will combust!

Please OP I beg you to take heed. I know income pressures are real but there is NO job worth losing your health over, a thing money can't buy once it's gone too wrong. Prioritise your rest, and look into a position change, or make a fuss at work to improve your situation. Remind yourself that the cost to your body/lifeforce is merely profit for your employers, and if you quit tomorrow they'd replace you in a flash (overcome your feelings of obligation or loyalty). Hopefully your issues may be menopause-related so invest in some downtime now to enjoy vitality in later years x

I struggle with sleeping and I eat a lot when I’m stressed. Not a major amount more than I would normally eat but I also eat crap instead of decent food

I don't sleep well and can actually be physically sick with stress too. I try really hard to keep on an even keel and avoid stress but doesn't always work.

Loss of sleep and appetite, which in turn make me more stressed. And my beard turned from full black to white since I took on a more stressful role (although that might just me getting old)
