I think right now they need to drain the swamp and this is part of that. Once the police (met in particular) have earned public confidence again they can relax the rule. |

Honestly with all the corruption, deceit and just general bad eggs in the Met I think this is only scratching the surface.
They’ve got to start somewhere, let’s hope they tighten the screw in other areas too. |

I think it is wholly wrong
As long as they aren’t breaching the sexual offences act, and using their own taxable income to pay for the service, I think it is nothing to do with the employer or the public
Romantic relationships - a bit more tricky. I am in favour of disclosure. That should not then extend to them being prevented from having a romantic relationship with whomever they choose. I imagine what they are getting at here is a police officer being romantically connected to a criminal. |

Declaring conflict of interest is good practice.
Sex workers are legally grey. As it stands they shouldn't be partaking. It opens up to other issues such as bl@ckmail.
Relationships are trickier. Od want to know what they are doing with data. It feels somewhat disproportionate to the risk.

When I first heard it overnight I thought it was right and a good thing, but I was under the impression that sex workers were performing illegally and therefore the met would be engaging in illegal activity. Now I realise it’s not illegal so I don’t consider it wrong that they participate. So instead of banning them perhaps just ensure they declare any conflicts of interest in terms of using licensed sex workers in the met area. Although how that gets monitored I’ve no idea. As
others have said, anything which will support the identification of the corrupt ones within the Met would be a good thing but, in my opinion, the corrupt ones aren’t going to put their hands up to their wrong doings! |

A lot of sex workers are controlled by gangs, drug dealers, people trafficking gangs and organised crime syndicates so it probably best law enforcement officers aren't allowed to participate. As for relationships its more difficult, probably something along the lines of the rules for doctors and medical professionals. |

"Are they going to be honest? Or just more secretive? I dunno
I'd opt for more secretive given the number of people who have relationships their partners aren't aware of. "
Agree. There’s no job this would work in |

Imagine discovering your partner was having an affair and Susan from HR knew before you did |

Met police have got a horrendous record for being untrustworthy, abusers, liars, rapists and on the odd occasion, murderers. What it really wants is everyone sacking and starting again but obviously that can’t happen so they trying to out the bad apples. Those who don’t use sex workers or have inappropriate romantic relationships should have nothing to worry about |

If they're using sex workers while on duty then yes I agree they shouldn't be allowed and it should be stopped, but if it's on their time off who gives a hoot, it's up to them what they do in the spare time
As for declaring their romantic relationships, why on earth should they have to declare that? Again that's their private life
I get that the police need to be watched and checked their not breaking the law (and rightly so) but what if the police allow this, how long before other companies/ organisation try to copy this with their employees |

I’d not date a police officer if this became law, that’s for sure.
They won’t get a date and won’t even be able to see a working girl either.
They’ll need to start putting something in the police canteen tea to calm them all down otherwise it will end up looking like the benny hill show! |

I doubt the bad apples will deliberately out themselves.
I genuinely can't see this working. |

No they won’t. And how will they even police it? Shit idea tbh but I’m glad they’re making the effort to tidy up that shitshow |

It’s PR. they’re not seriously trying to tidy it up. |

Part of the reason is because in "the good old days" of policing, sex workers were very often targeted by police. Not to cut down any illegal activity, but to shake them down for a free blow job or shag, or even to take a cut of their earnings. Threatening the women with arrest if they refused. |

"I think that for as long as selling sex is illegal it should absolutely be banned. Double standards. It’s the oldest profession x"
It isn’t illegal
Not wanting to over complicate it so briefly it is how the services are delivered that is the issue
organised delivery of services is illegal - brothels etc
Kerb crawling is illegal
Any coercion of the sex worker by a third party makes it illegal for the customer to engage sexual services (either with their actual knowledge (and I need to check this but I think it is) or if they reasonably ought to have known) |

I'm surprised the Unions have allowed this through. Massive change in employment terms and conditions, especially the part about relationships.
And, given the reputation of the Met, do they really think a rule saying you can't visit sex workers is going to stick? |

That was my other thought.
I remember once years ago being accused of 'industrial espionage ' by a boss of mine who was in big trouble for incompetence in an attempt to divert attention from his inability or unwillingness to improve. I strongly suspect someone somewhere is sitting with their head in their hands saying "where do we even start?" |
