The first line of it yes.

Or … if they’ve messaged you and you’ve replied, if they go into their sent messages they can see the history of the conversation including any unread messages without the unread message flagging as read.

Or .. they can read it then just mark it as unread again!

Not unless it's only a few words long. However if they're a site supporter and you've replied to a message they sent they can go to sent messages and read it.

Or they can open it, read it and mark it as unread.

They can read it when you are offline and mark it back as unread or as most people do look at the senders profile first and that determines if they will bother reading the message or not.
